ANY GOOD??

  182cup & 172 racecar
Right guys, now I'm not into spotless cars etc, though I do give the RB a once over every week.

After owning a black golf GTI many moons ago, I vouched never to have a black car again.

So what have I done, bought a black Sprinter van for towing the race about (dick head), but it looks cool.

Anyway, it was polished quickly by the local Poles before I bought it, but the surface was a little rough, and the dust stuck to it like glue.

So yesterday I went to Halfords and got some T-cut ultimate black paint perfection. Basically, black T-cut and a sealer.

I've done the bonnet and one side before the sun got me (thankfully, cos I'm shagged now), arms like Popie.

Feels nice and smooth, and tried a little water on it, and it just runs straight off, say's it should last for 12 months?, I would hope so but I doubt it.

The sealer contains, Benzisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone whatever they are.

Also bought a 5ltr carplan wash and wax for general washing throughout the year.

Hope this will do.

Gally, don't shoot me, it's a big,big van.

  182cup & 172 racecar
No, not trolling at all, it's a very mild paste not like the original T-cut stuff and it's black. I know its only a van, but it cost a few quids.

Hasn't got any of the little scratches out, but has got rid of the hazeness that was lurking about.

Ok old man ;)

Put the t-cut in the bin and speak to Magpie about a correction + protection :) She's mental and loves polishing sh*t.

Do it once and do it properly.

German paint is generally 'ard as fek, so I'd imagine it wouldn't do much to it other than make it actually look worse in a week when the rain has washed all the fillers away :dapprove:

  182cup & 172 racecar
The sealer that comes with it is similar to EGP. At least the dust doesn't stick to it. Atm anyway.

The only review on Halfrauds was pretty conclusive...

Pros: none.
Cons: hard work with no results.
"To use this T-cut paintwork perfection you need to start early in the day. I followed the instructions to the letter and must say how very disappointed i am with the results. I wish i has just simply spent a couple of quid and put the car through a car wash. Hours and hours of constant wiping on wiping off with poor results.
Do yourselves a favour. Save your money"

LOL !

Sorry Tony

Clay, auto glym super resin polish, collinite 476 wax, done. Cheap and easy to do and the collinite wax protects and lasts for ages. Immense combo on black paint!

  182cup & 172 racecar
Bolloxs, it will do for now.

I was in there for something else and came out with this stuff as well.

Still gives you all a laugh.:) Little old man with a fcuking massive black van.

And yes, it does tack a lot of rubbing, it say's let it dry, but then it won't come off.

I'm going for a lay down in the sun.

Tony tone tone.

You need to sack the black t-cut off. It is like polishing the car with sand filled gravy.

You need some decent shampoo, Meguires for example, some Auto Glym Super Resin Polish, and some decent protection on top of that. It will give 100% better results than the black tcut stuff.

You want the X5 which was towing a Cup track car down the M6 last night. He was doing pretty much a ton with a trailer and Clio on the back...I think that the lad like to drive quite quickly! :race:

Sprinters are class though!!!!
Get some proper products, won't cost you much and you will be sorted.

Won't cost you anything Tony, just let me know what you want and I will bring it on Friday :) I wouldn't envy the job of claying a van of that size though. IMO if you are going to do anything then you need to clay it :( I had a stroke of the paint when we collected it and could tell it had been polished but needed some decent prep.

Old school stuff for us old schoolers Tony. It's not an effin Aston Martin Zagato!

It is to me Adam.

Right Halfords have been my friend today:(, more money gone.

Just to please you lot, I bought a AG clay starter pack! me ffs.

Anyways,, set about claying the other side of the van, stuff is pretty cool, could feel it going smooth as I went along, and yes I did use the detailer that's supplied.

SRP (getting good at this) seem's quite abrasive to me, and the cloth was getting black on it, I take it this is right?

After buffing that lot off (my arms), I then used EGP and left it while I watched the GP(about an hour), buffed that off, that comes off easy, I like that.

Right is that it ? Please say yes.

Now what do I do after this ? I'm not doing that every week, no way.

Thanks girls.:)

Why did you buy one? What happened to the Vito?!

The Vito is getting used more for work now, and is being patched up welding wise to the tune of £600.
Plus this one is like a motorhome inside, very cool.

You want the X5 which was towing a Cup track car down the M6 last night. He was doing pretty much a ton with a trailer and Clio on the back...I think that the lad like to drive quite quickly! :race:

The Vito would do 90 all day towing.

Sprinters are class though!!!!

Won't cost much?, it's like doing 3 cars.

Thanks James, need a clay bar the size of a house brick lol, might even do the 182 after this. Shoot me.

Fair play for claying/polishing and protecting a van in one day in this heat, f that.

Seems enough, not sure how long egp lasts but after next wash use a QD to bring it to abit of a shine.

Perfect! (providing your technique is ok!!)

Not to cause upset (sorry!) but I really don't think the EGP will last long at all...

As mentioned if you grab some Collinite 476, and use that after your SRP. it'll be sealed up for months :).

The black on the cloth is hopefully! the black T Cut.

Fair play for claying a van lol, you could use tardis, iron x, etc also. depends how far you want to go. Dare I say, it's only a van.

  182cup & 172 racecar
Didn't do the T-cut side, give me a chance, and that side was in full sun by then.

It wasn't black black, but you could tell it was black on the cloth. Where do you get this Collinite stuff, do Halfords do it ?

Only a van, it's converted to a Motorhome inside, the works, shower toilet, heating, hot water, leather seats etc, so you see, not just a van.
I want to do this once and thats it for a while.

LOL , proper grease monkey!. '' who gives a f**k about detailing. as long as its clean ''

altho, you look after ' it ' and it'll look after you.

Tony you failed to mention the chrome wheels

Collinite 476 would be a good bet! Not sure about Halfords but I have got a pot that I never use so your welcome to it :) I can chuck it in the post tomorrow if you want

That would be cool James, unless you going to Freds Mon or Tues, cos I shall pop in on Tues afternoon.

Have to excuse my replies if they seem a little slow, it's not coming up in my settings, so I have to keep going into the detailing section.

And yes Dan, you would love the van.:)

The T-cut didn't kill me but the claying did. I can just imagine how the Black looks now!

Srp or Auto Finnese Tripple mate. Either will look superb on Black mate. :)

I've read about 2 replies btw.

Yeah Tony that'll be alright mate, it'll look shiny and shouldn't be madly swirly. I wouldn't get too hung up on all the in depth detailing info as you end up spending two days solid cleaning it! Lol

As said I'll bring some stuff with me that's pretty easy to apply, remove and provides quite long lasting amounts of smooth feeling paint. :)

Snow foaming - I'll explain on Friday if you haven't already researched it! ;)

Thanks Nick, and no I haven't done a search.

Why does this thread not come up in my settings?

I have to go looking for it all the time.

What's changed????

I see it's more than 'just a van' now. Sounds a bit of a beast! Pics?

Most of the finish is in the preperation, so if you want to add more stages it will only help.

I'm sure Gally will be along with more advice soon!
