Any ideas on how to get my 100k mileage Clio RS trophy to pass its MOT on emissions?

As the title suggests, I cannot get my RS to pass it’s MOT as it keeps failing on emissions.

Here’s the picture of what it’s failing on. It happened before and they suggested a full service (which it was due) as well as replacing the Lambda sensor.

That was all done yesterday, and it’s still failing. The guys at the test center are a bit confused because the higher the revs go when testing, the lower the emissions are getting, and supposedly it’s supposed to be the other way round. They had it at 4.5k revs and it was within the pass limits, but when they dropped it back down to 2-3k revs it just went too high again.

They’ve suggested getting the back diffuser taken off and then the exhaust back box looked at to see if there are any leaks, but they weren’t really sure it would help.

Has anyone had any experience of this before?

(I’ve also put lots of 98 octane fuel in and driven it around like a bit of an idiot to get it through the system, as well as had a petrol
Injector cleaner additive put in, but no luck)

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

How would I go about finding that out?

I got the car at 25k miles and haven’t had any mods or anything like that done so I assume it’s the original.

I think they might have mentioned that in the garage but they’d checked it and it was the original.

Forgot to ask are we talking about a 220 trophy or a 182 Trophy?

Does it do lots of short journeys? You can also treat it like a DPF regen and sit in 3/4th at 70 to get it hot.

I would also recommend running a fuel cleaner treatment through a tank and use super if you don't already.

I don’t know why you are having such a hard time with it tbh? My bro has a 2016 trophy with less miles and he seems to get it through mot’s easily enough.

Not really. My daily commute is 40 miles each way so it probably does more longer journeys than short.

I really did drive it quite stupidly for 45 minutes before the retest today. Was going 100 as often as I could so I don’t think there’s any way it wasn’t hot enough

Is that different to a petrol injector cleaner additive?

I’ve been using 98 octane for the last few hundred miles since failing the first mot, and had the fuel additive put in the car yesterday and it hasn’t made any difference

Not a faulty coolant temp probe causing it to think the engine is constantly cold and running rich all the time?

Ignore me, chatting s**t, misread the title and thought you only had 25k on it not 100….. soo the cat may have s**t itself or is blocked/clogged like others have said.

Are they putting the probe in the exhaust properly?

Had similar with mine, then the guy realised how far behind the tips the exhaust actually sits. He said it was a bit awkward to just slide his probe straight in 😳

I can ask them the question, but I’ve taken it to the same place 3 times for an mot you’d think they would’ve put the probe in far enough
