Any tips to fit a milltek

  DCi
Hi All,

I have decided to change my exhaust on my 182, i need to change the cat (as it is cracked) and the back box system (as it's starting to blow) so here is what I am planning:

I want to change the cat for this:
http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=1265
as it is a daily runner I don't want a de cat!

and then I will be changing the rest for a cat back system from milltek

I will also get a new clamp and gasket!

Does anyone who has experience of fitting a milltek system have any tips to look out for before I do this or that will make the job easier?

cheers!
Iain

fitting the milltek is pretty easy. the hardest part is removing the old exhaust. i just cut mine out inbetween the centre section and the backbox's on a straight peice of pipe

clio_luke did you find that the pipes dont stick out the back of the bumber equal?and yeah as to fitting just cut the old one and put the new one on,id also get some new mounts before you do the job,the mistake i made, you have to slightly modify the mounts but all this is very obvious and easy when you come to do the job

yeah, at first the pipes were not equal. pulled it about a bit and fiddled around with it and they were level. only other thing i had to do after a week or so was to pack the mounts up with socket bits. it sagged on the old mounts

They fit poorly imo, pipes sat to the left, moved when hot. Tried new mounts etc. There is too much stress in the system imo

Yep, sound lovely, but i sacked it off for a BTB, now that fitted properly, no issues at all. Was gutted about the Milltek though, it just wouldnt fit. I had major issues with the rear hangers not fitting through the Renault mounts!!!

right, this all finally arrived today, so it will be fitted some point soon, just one quick question though:

do I need to run it in, in a particular way? and for how many miles? or can you just go back to driving as normal

one more question!

the clamp between the cat and cat back got replaced 6 months ago - will it be reusable or will it be best to replace the gasket and / or clamp/nuts/bolts?

if i need nuts and bolts are they a standard size or do i need to go to renault?

its come with a clamp for manifold to cat but in the instructions it even says use the current parts for cat to cat -back

just wondering if its worth replacing the gasket/clamp kit (despite it being done 6 months ago) and if it is worth changing can i just buy bolts from the bolt shop instead of paying renault premium prices!!

No use a new genuine Renault clamp, if you re use an old one it'll leak. Do a search and it'll bring up loads.. Make a kind of whooshing sound! :)

got a new one off renault on my lunch break and fitted the exhaust this evening.

fitting the exhaust went most swimmingly, had no problems at all putting it on and it was all done very quickly.

the biggest problem was removing the original exhaust but took the back bumper off and it seemed to create the required space so overall not too bad.

really loving the new sound and found the split in my original crack had developed into a chunk of metal missing from under the original clamp, so now my tinny whistling problems are gone and i forgot what a normal engine sounded like :D

oooo im a happy bunny

to make space for the old exhaust to come out, only other way we could see was cut it in half but ill probably put it back on for sale

Yup, drop the rear beam, rear bumper off.... iirc the system needs twisting to clear the beam. You can cut it, Renault sell a sleave to reconnect if need be, but better to keep it in one piece :)

Me and BenP did mine and it was fine for a few months..then the bloody thing started moving about so i replaced both exhaust hangers and resealed the zorst after the cat while i was there..hasnt moved since..
