Any way of bypassing rain sensors?

I've just discovered the Trophy doesn't use a rain sensitive panel on the windscreen, and with the addition of an adjustable stalk found on most Clio's, you essentially have a good old proper time-adjustable intermittent wiper. Even the bloody Cup has it, they strip most things out and leave the one thing in I really don't want!

Is there any way of doing this to a Clio equipped with the rain sensitive panel? Basically I want to bypass that "technology" and get the adjustable nubbin changing the length of time between wipes rather than the sensitivity.

You could do it but just live with it the effort not worth it.

I expected as much. The damn sensitivity adjuster makes it even more annoying, it doesn't actually appear to do anything! 4 years/2 Clios and I still don't know which way to turn it to make it more sensitive, seems to make no difference either way.

I thought you could deactivate it and they would just function as usual wipers? Im probably wrong but will check in my manual tonight.

Is this feture only in the cup's? as I have a ph1 172 2001 model on a Y reg which has some funny things on the stalk which control the wipers. Do i have them. I can't see anything in the manuals about it.

The basic models have the 'normal' intermittant stalks without the functionless adjuster.

Surely you can just buy the basic one and replace the pointless one?

Essentially, on my Cup...(and also on any Dynamique etc I've ever driven)

1) Stalk in the up position is off, regardless of weather
2) Stalk one click down is rain-sensitive
3) Stalk two clicks down is regular constant wipe (although it does stop when stationary)
4) Stalk three clicks down is fast constant wipe

With the stalk down one click it operates by sensing rainfall, you can adjust the sensitivity of this by spinning the dial near the end of the stalk. This "replaces" the intermittent wipe, as in theory if there is light rain it should work like a clever intermittent wiper....but it doesn't because its rubbish!

The Trophy doesn't have the rain sensitive function and therefore no dial to adjust sensitivity, so the first click down just acts as an intermittent wiper with no way of adjusting the frequency. Whilst this is better than the rain-sensitive stuff, the frequency it is set to as a default is useless, so many owners then add the sensitivity dial to the stalk; this then adjusts the time between wipes - therefore becoming a good old time-adjustable intermittent wiper.

So I was asking if you can bypass all the rain sensitive gubbins and just have it operate like a Trophy does with the additional dial, as a time-adjustable wipe rather than a sensitivity adjustable wipe.

Would like to know this too - i can't stand the rain-sensitive setting, would much rather have an adjustable interval intermittant setting!

My old Mk2 Ph2 2001 1.2 Dynamique predated the auto lights and wipers and had a normal intermittent timer stalk fitted.
Whether you only need the stalk to regain normal intermittent wipers I don't know though.

I think auto lights and wipers were only fitted as standard from Jun 2002 onwards.

So if I was to fit a dynamique stalk instead of the 172 stalk Id have control of my wipers again? If so someone sell me one now! Auto wipers are absolute pish!

My auto wipers work a treat. If you set it to one notch less than full sensitivity it does the trick. Also when you change the sensitivity, you need to turn it off and turn it on again to register the new setting I believe.

Wouldnt be without them now!

No because the stalk itself is the same, if just depends on whether the sensor is fitted and the uch is programmed for auto wipers.
I must have the only set of auto wipers that seem to work ok, I can get on with them well enough they do have their special moments but 9/10 there alright.

With the dial twisted all the way so the knub bit is right at the back as far as it will go. Bottom of the markings.

i like my autowipers. sometimes they are frikkin lethargic, but most of the time they work a treat. preferrable to having to manually work them. AN override would be nice though, just like the lights have
