Anyone done a valver conversion on a derv?

Anyone know what's needed to fit a 1.8 16v from the 16v Clio to a Mk1 ph2 Derv?

Is it a simple case of ECU and engine/engine mount and drops straight in, or does it need mounts fabricating and 16v gear box?

Are clutch and flywheel interchangable?

straight swap yes.

may as well get the top engine mount from the valver, and the box with its mount too. the boxes are interchangeable, its just up to you if you want longer ratios.

literally drop it in with the 1.8 engine loom, plug the 1.8 ecu in and turn the key (Ideally you need a Ph2 valver engine loom) This way you may get lucky and the interior loom should match, if not you'll need to do a bit of swapping of wires on the connector block, not a hard job at all. or swap the interior loom over which isnt too much hassle.

The valver engines go for very cheap money, I couldn't shift mine and gave them away for free with mounts/looms, as they were just taking up space. Ive seen quite a few others give them away too. The JB3 valver boxes (circlip diff models) go for cheap, ive seen them for as little as £20.

I have a Ph2 ECU somewhere, and a random assortment of Mk1 engine looms lying around. Saying that I have most things apart from any valver bottom ends, got manifolds and cylinder heads collecting dust everywhere.

All in all a simple swap, the engine bay chassis on all Mk1s is the same.

Excellent - cheers f0xy. Something to look into as I think diesel power isn't going to be satisfying enough after bodies.

dan - adams valver isnt far of mine at all... basically the same speed as mine but i lose him off the line and from the top end of 4th onwards... quick car imo and all he has is a full exhaust with manifold and de-cat

...thats still blowing and an engine with f**ked rings. :boring:

What engine code am I looking for for a 1.8 16v? Or is it just commonly known as a 1.8 16v? (if I'm searching ebay for example)

Im not sure if a derv Mk1 has its own loom... would be better fitting a full loom from the donar car

You should Turbo Derv it... easy get valver power out of one ;)

Ah!! cool... yeah walkden born and (in)bred

you could use the TD out of a 19 if you can find one... just the down pipe that would be a problem... make it nice and big, up the boost, tweek the pump.... Winner

Its not a well known conversion but a few folks overseas have done them with great results

PS... Easier to Valver it tbh but if you like a challenge lol

lol.

valver swap could be done in a day from start to driving it away with ease if you had all the parts to hand

Already got one peice of shite off the road.

Let me see how this is once I pick it up tomorrow, if it's painfully slow (which I expect it will be more than that) then it might need a valver in.
