Anyone ever had this problem?

Hi there a week ago i had the cambelt changed and the head gasket, i had a man come round to do the cambelt timing and stuff. Then when we put it all back together went to start it and it just kept turning over, and nothing was happening just the occasional pop from the exhuast. I called up the man that did the timing thinking that he had timed it up wrong or something and he told me just to keep turning it over, and eventually it'll start, i did this for ages and had to keep stoping before i killed the starter motor..I called him again and said that its still not working and he said to try and toe it in gear, to get the hydrualic valve lifters to work.

Anyone else ever had this problem? as ive never heard of it before.

what car mate? if a 172/182 they are dam site harder to change and time up than a normal clio and a lot of 'cambelt specialists' have been known to muck up the timing, who did yours?

Pop down the exhaust is either fuel in exhaust due to ignition issue (low risk of engine damage)- or timing way out (risk of engine damage) either way you dont want to keep turning it over.

Get the timing tools out and reset it to the manual - or get the bloke back

It's possible he's timed the cams 180 degrees out the Ds on the end of the cams are slightly different sizes it's easily done but ring fred he knows his stuff I'm sure he'll tell you the same.

Where can you get the tools from? and Wheres the TDC Sensor?

Thanks

Laser do a cam setting tool thats fine and there are several on Ebay - the CAM tool OEM part number MOT1509 you need to go to Renault as the only cam tool Laser do is a holding tool for the smaller engines. I am looking for the latter tool and I am also speaking to Renault as I have paid £510 for parts to fix a problem caused by a failed auxiliary belt with 20k miles on it and there is a new tool that replaces the 1509 or so they say.
