Anyone ever regretted a modification ?

Car  Arctic 182
Had the 182 lowered on vmaxx coilies and as much as it looks good, I do in a way sort of regret it. It's lowered about 40 at the rear and 30ish as the front. Don't get me wrong, the handlings improved no end and feels glued to the road around corners. But Im more of an enthusiast than a modifier and I like to appreciate cars for what they are. I'll more than likely keep it how it is at the minute. Anyone else regretted lowering or any modification at all ?

I modified my 182 plenty, and regretted all but the simplest of cosmetic changes.

Sure, it looked good, but cost me £1000's and was no better car for it.

Coilovers made the ride 'different' and meant I had to avoid speed bumps and kerbs.

Cams were expensive, added to a remap close to £1k and got me about 10bhp increase...

Never again, hence I sold it and bought the 200 :p

Hideous chrome rear lights, harfrauds 16v badge hmmm i think thats it for now.... ohh yeahh 2ltr badges on my 1.2 ;) haha....

Regret most things tbh.

Coils make the ride unbearable round here because the roads are so bad ect ect ect. I only drive to work and back now, sometimes just think whats the point in spending any unnecessary money on it. Yet other times I love it and want to spend something on it to change it up, that only Ill notice probably.

Although I dont actually do much modding anyway. Just dont have the money or time.

Dont think I have, I kinda regret not spending more on coilovers.

I regret most of my mods when I have to go to Tesco's and put the baby straps on in the stupid loud car. But then when I'm on a decent road, just out for a drive I like them all :)

When the car's worth next to nothing I don't think you should regret anything unless you're planning on selling it. Or if it looks fugly.

Nothing :) that's the best thing about CS, you can get the opinions of people who have already make the mistakes! Hopefully I'll be able to help others in the same way....

I had a perfectly good ph1 Black Renault 21 Turbo and had it repainted in Ford Olympic Blue with a set of White Team Dynamics Pro Race 1's, a Carisma retrim in Black and Baby Blue......I ended up spending £24k in 6 years of owning it, that was inc all mods and buying it tho, engine, 5 diff sets of wheels, 3 gearboxes, 4 turbos etc etc u get the idea.

I was left with a show winning white elephant that everyone loved yet nobody actually wanted, so I broke it for bits and took a club hammer to the remains. Got £5.5k back and have just bought another black ph1 21 Turbo lol

I had a fab time with the car, learned so much as I did most of it myself (all except paint) but I so wished it was still black and shiny :(

Bought my first R5 GTT at 21, was a lovely standard grey one, my list of shame....

De-badged, replaced with huge RENAULT TURBO items.
Took the stickers off the side.
Smooth rear boot, meaning I couldnt use it.
Golf clear side repeaters, had to make the holes in the wings bigger
Butchered the front grill.
Mille Miglia evo 16's

Other mods like lowering, side exit, tuning etc was fun, but I basically ruined it and sold it for £690. What a w**ker!

I'm sorry :(

Sounds familiar
Lol I forgot to mention I 'badboy' noseconed it, smooth the bootlid too........I'd like to apologise to it lol

I love every single one of mine...each one has made it a little more raw. Not the easiest thing to drive now, but each time out is an event that causes lots of smiles.

I regret putting a ktec stealth on my 172. I should have gone for a BTB (although i'm not sure they were out at the time) or a yozza. The stealth is heavy and boomy. It did sound good at full chat but there are far better systems available.

Mine came with a m/s Ktec Stealth and frankly its dire, been badly fitted, so I need to change and BTB is all I hear about lol

Have to agree with this, And luckily haven't wasted any money yet. There are quite a few mods that are quite useless on this forum. Some people just don't listen and spend even more dosh correcting there own mistakes.
Now where can I buy those 18" rims :)

Well I just got in from putting the standard air box back ON, car came with an induction kit when I bought it 3 weeks ago. I haven't lost much noise, and I've definitely gained torque low down :) oh and I also removed the metal tax disc holder for a CS one. Been down the modding route before, and have bought the 182 to keep it 99% standard and just enjoy :)

Apex -40mm kit on my 1.6, looked great but handled worse than standard and the ride was rediculous. Never again.

Exhaust on my 182 rattled.

Coilovers ruined the ride on my 182.

Exhaust on my 197 caused the mother of all flat spots.

Lesson learned? Nope!

Whats everyones opinions on coilovers ? it does look good, but theres a 172 cup across the street, totally standard and it makes me want to put my standard suspension back on. :(

worst mod i ever did was going from a nice scorpion exhaust to a shitty mild steel ktec stealth..to heavy for the hangers and on a ph1 it wouldnt hide behind the bumper, pile of shite

lowered springs on escort mk3 ....

cornered better but ruined the ride so much they had to come off

Back when i had my 1.2, i spent a small wedge on morrettes, big mistake, made my car absolutely hideous.
