Anyone had issues with uprated brake fluid? For the track day and fast road users.

  Clio 172
Hi Guys and girls,

I am currently uprating the braking system on my ph1 and have bought new front and rear discs and pads, sourcing braided hoses and uprated brake fluid. I had an aquaintance say to me that he used uprated brake fluid 5.1 in his car and it ruined the seals on the calipers and the master cylinder. Is this likely to happen and has anyone had any issues with uprated fluid. It sounds a bit unlikely to me and the car in question is an impreza but still I wanted to check.

Thanks

Andy

I wouldn't bother with 5.1.

If you really want to stick some better fluid in there, grab some ATE Super Blue or similar.

Was morew a question if anyone has has any issues with the uprated fluid corroding anything. I'm assuming not but wanted to be sure.

5.1 will absorb moisture more readily, this could have caused his problem. You will need to change the fluid on a very regular basis if using this.

We use it in the race car,but we bleed the system through after every race.

5.1 not needed for road use at all.Not even for willy waving.

Thanks Tony, what would you recommend for track day use?

  Clio.

4 will do well.

Agree with Tony, change dot 4 often and you will have no worries, also if you need to top up the reservoir at a track day its more readily available in a petrol garage than any "race" fluid.
