Anyone Here NEVER Selling Their 172 Cup ?

R

rich[182]

Used to be involved with RS Owners Club, regret selling my minter FRST, I know a guy that has had a S1 Escort RST since new and he'll never ever part with it

Was a thread last week here on R5GTT and brought back me regretting selling mine

Also theres a few members saying the 197 harks the end of true hot hatches

So wondered if even now, theres some 172 Cup owners that have decided there never selling theirs no matter what, just curious

  cock mobile.
I plan on buying another one at somepoint as a track / fun car.

But will be a couple of years at least when I can afford to do it all.

Just hope I can get one in decent nick then!

I totally agree. For what they sell for I just isn`t worth it imo. I`d rather stick with it till after we`re married (and have a bit of cash spare) and then get another car for daily use and track the cup. I`d love to be able to strip it totally and get some buckets etc...not exactly practical at the mo lol

And it is easy to `stick with it` as it is still making me smile everytime I drive it

I've owned my cup for over 2 years now and thats the longest i've owned a car. I like looking at other cars ,mainly the elise 111r, which is the only car i would swap for when i can afford it. But like many others i will let my lass use the cup and i will buy the elise! So i will be keeping it in the family!

i've ahd my clio a year and a half now i was thinknig of getting rid whe i had problems last year but i've stuck through it and i never want to get rid of it i'd rather weight till thr gf passes her test, get ine turbo'd and have it garaged for track days and in many many years its vaule will pick back up

*phase 2 172 turbo'd currenly running at 300bhp 30k 1 lucky son of a b*tch owner unfortunately bugatti veyron forces sale by this classic hot hatch while you can ..... £25k ono* date 12/07/2025

Would be tempted to keep it when it comes to change... maybe for track day only...!

Would have to have a serious think about it tho!!

Mines not a cup, but I have no plans to get rid. I'v spent too much money on it and i've had it 2 years now from new so I think i'll be keeping it for a long time yet. Probably more likely to get a second car once the girlfriend can drive and mine can go on a diet. I can't strip it yet as I still need it as a proper car and I doubt the bird wants to be harnessed up just to go to tesco's LOL.

  Vectra :(
Personally if i was keeping a car forever (obviously forever in car terms is like a prison sentance and very rarely means forever) i would want something of a limited run/collectors item. With my 172 being sold any day now i can def say i wouldnt be keeping one. I have a little project underway for my track car/weekend road car and that would fall into the limited run bracket.

As for value going up i doubt it would on a cup tbh. The only cars really that demand more than other cars same age etc are the limited run cars for example

Williams Clio
Trophy (more so if there is no trophy 197)
V6 Clio
R5 Turbo 2
Escort Cosworth (not limited run i dont think but special non the least)
Racing Puma

etc etc

Saying that i wouldnt mind a cup for track days and running into the ground as having fun with

  Clio 172 CUP
never selling mine, no way! had it nearly 4 years now! waited too long for my ickle Clio and I aint parting with it yet!

1st car i ever bought brand new ..................still enjoying every moment .
probably keep it for ever

I've had a FRST for seven years now. A couple of years back I thought I'd never want to sell it, now I'm breaking it and perfectly happy. Circumstances change, you can't say you're never going to sell a car!

Fully agree, I was never going to sell my 309 Goodwood, or 205 1.9 GTi and both are now gone. When you get offered the right money and fancy a change, the outlook you have soon changes. It would have to be something really really special to make it worth keeping forever.
