Apple G4 question

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
Right.

a friend of mine has a G4 running os 9.2
he says that he cant see videos, Yahoo wont work, and ebay has also packed up.

initially i thought it was a codec problem but with some internet sites not work i thought it could also be a Java problem.

i know nothing about macs so if anyone knows anything could they please help.

Ideally the OS needs updating to a later up to date version of OS X.

I am running 10.4 here on my old one with a gig of ram and all is good. Not sure how well the latest 10.5 will run on it so I have left as is as I have my laptop as my main machine now anyway.

is there a reason why videos wont work on his though?
can he not just update java like you can on pc's?

The OS is so old no one does updates for it anymore. No one does updates for things 8 year out of date.

OS X came out in 2000, any OS 9 updates ended soon after that.

Not sure how anyone can use it day to date now. My old chap still uses 9.2 and most things don't work, so he mixes between that 10.4 but is to scared to take the jump !!!

Well.

1) There will be no codecs as OS 9 is obsolete.
2) He'll be running the mac internet explorer from 1999! Enough said, browser best part of 10 years old.
3) Internet explorer is about as good as it gets on OS 9.

Running 10.5 on a G4 powerbook (1.5Ghz) without any issues here.

The G4 is one of the old dual processor 450's so best left where it is I think !

I am running 10.5 on the Macbook Pro.
