Apple MacBook / Pro

  M135i
Hi all, seriously looking into getting one of these. anyone had one long term and could give me the pros and cons over a pc? is there any newsgroup software i can use on the mac. i only use my comp really for photos, internet and music. just want something a bit nicer to use.

also, where is the best place ot get them at a good price??

I went for a macbook pro, got student discount off though, but it's an awesome piece of kit. Never looked back.

I'd say come to my work and I'll get a discount for you, but I can't. :(

On the system all (...most) Apple products are shown at 4% margin (though I see the real buy price - MD doesn't know that I know and can't use it to get cheap things) and our s**t discount scheme is cost + 5% + vat. That makes it MORE espensive! lol

But more on topic... The MBP is veeeeery nice. Buy a MacBook and you'll regret not getting the Pro model. Even if you don't need the power - if you've got the cash to splash I'd highly recommend one.

Edit - Current promo at work is any MacBook Pro and get 4GB memory free... about 120 quid saving or something http://www.cancomuk.com/Home/Special-Offers/Summer-Savings

Hi,

I have a macbook pro, I got the first Intel to come out.

I love it, I regret not getting the glossy screen, since upgrading it to 2gig, it's been even better.

They are expensive, but worthwhile, certainly,

As stated, new one coming out, so wait for that.

Matt H Do you work at the one in Merrow ??

Yeah I do.

New MacBook Pros have been rumored for quite some time and all there is to back it up is some pics of a case. Based on last announcement dates, Mac mini is overdue a refresh and MBP was quite recently updated.

You can always keep waiting for the next revision to come out, however I have to agree that in this case it's best to wait. It could be many months though. ;)

Edit - What I do is have an iGoogle (http://www.google.com/ig) tab for "Apple" and this checks all the RSS feeds of Apple rumors sites automaticaly and puts all the news in one place. :)

mac over windows any day. Ive had a few for like 3 years now and i can honestly say i would never buy a windows computer again. As i am a photographer / designer the mac just works, no fuss no hassle. however 10.5 leopard leaves me a bit confused cos i dont really see many advantages for myself in it personally . . but hey. MAC !!!

oh btw i have a macbook intel core duo, 2ghz 2gb ram. :) in black.

I work with Windows Server etc at work. XP/Vista at home. I was thinking about having a play with a Mac, is it worth it?

OSX intergrates with AD just about perfectly.

You can run virtually any windows OS / LINUX ect on a Mac via two alternative methods,

Bootcamp (starts up with your desired OS)

Or running something like parallels/Vmware, this means you can run OSX and another operating system next to each other hence parallels.

Coherence is an excellent tool by parallels.

Short answer - YES.
