Apple Store/ iPhone Warrantee experiences

Martin, with your logic. If I buy a car and it breaks outside of warranty you would suggest I go an smash it up and get the insurance to pay out if the manufacturer refuses to fix it?

I admit that I may be wrong though. I stood corrected by Jay G. Doesn't stop me having an opinion on it.

You being an Admin means you should be someone who can control situations, be of assistance or dare I say it be someone to take charge. Not to get lippy to people all the time and think your clever.

NO lol. OK I admit it was a stupid thing to say. Man enough to admit I'm wrong. Just my anger over my broken phone.

I helped Andy. I've given him advice on what to do.

You came in here with a stupid fraudulent suggestion and now I'm the one in the wrong?

Don't forget your insurance is likely to have a 100+ excess and they'll attempt to swap the screen. Often badly. So going to Apple isn't such a bad deal really.

Did I say you were wrong? NO

I said I've noticed you making a lot of rude and unnecessary comments recently.

Go into a thread, oh someone is being lippy to the OP. Let me guess who it is. Oh yeah its Revels again. What a surprise.

As said. I admit what I said was silly. I didn't think before writing.

Looking at the price of genuine apple parts to repair it yourself or the price of the parts and labour having someone else repair it, IMO you are just better off going to apple direct. That's what I would do.

in the past ive had great service and gestures of goodwill from apple. screen broke not so long ago though and sod paying my £75 insurance excess, £6 for a screen off ebay and all is well again.

apple should have a line of what they will and wont replace as a rule imo, not just on what the genius that day and that customer decides

The rule is that they won't replace anything that's your fault. Dropped/smashed/water etc. But then they put such emphasis on customer service they don't like saying no.

Managers are heavily targeted on customer satisfaction that they'd rather give you a free phone than you go home and fill out a load of 'Not satisfactory' ticks on the survey they send you.

A genius might/should say no to a free replacement for a broken screen etc. That's fair enough. But say the right things to a manager and they'll still swap it. Just depends how you play it.

In America they have AppleCare+ now. It's $99 (I think) and it covers your iPhone for damage. So now there's no grey area at all. If you have the insurance, you'll get a swap. Otherwise you won't. Surprised it's not made its way over here yet.

its all about managing expectations i think.

if customer A gets their phone replaced then customer B will assume they will also (for the same or similar problem)

however when customer B doesnt after expecting to, then they feel even worse than customer A would of when told "we cant replace it because you broke it yourself by x,y or z"

applecare+ sounds decent i guess

Ladies... Chill out... If it bothers you so much, next time buy a Nokia... That way, if that develops a fault you can take it to your local Nokia store... Oh wait, there aren't any...

Count your lucky stars that Apple even offer to do this sort of thing... Having worked for Carphone Warehouse, I know how atrocious the standard phone repair process can be... We Apple owners are lucky to have stores fairly local to us in which that they will offer to replace the handset right there and then within minutes.

Ok, sometimes you have to pay, however, I would be happy to pay a premium to mean that I won't have to wait 3 weeks without a phone...

You shouldn't need apple waranty anyway ;)

My iPhone has survived being dropped 3 times, twice on the screen and a car crash which the phone was flung across a vehicle. The only damage is a tiny pin prick sized chip in the bottom left of the screen.

I am certain this phone is invincible.

True true, mine even survived going into the sink whilst I was brushing my teeth, it could have been my cat-like reflexes that meant it only spent a second or so submerged, but it just laughed that off. win

i thought that then i dropped mine onto a carpeted work floor, from about 3 feet and shattered the screen.

i imagine it weakens over time
