are coilovers really worth it?

  black 3 door clio 1.2 16v
heya guys the time has come for me to pick some new suspension,

ive been thinking about coilovers (around the £500 price tag) but are they really worth all that money for just a fast road car ??

could i get similar performance from a top make spring and damper kit? along with some pollyflex bushes?

the car is going to be run on 195-50-15 inch wheels and tyres and i want a -60mm drop .........

thanks

depends what you want really. a good damper and spring combo will be better than cheap coilovers as they skimp on the damper quality. more expensive ones give ddamping adjustment. I'm running KW Variant 2 coilovers and they are perfect for me

I know a man.. who knows a man.. who knows a man.. who can get FK Konig sport coilovers for £500 ;)

EDIT: just realised you have a 1.2 check rimstyle you can pick up a set of FK's for £350ish I am sure?

Agreed, a good spring & damper combo will be much better than a cheap coilover.

Judging from that prize the quality is very poor and they wont work that well, i talk from experience since ive owned in a previous car a D1 Dropzone coilover and it was really shitty.

Even mid-range coilovers arent that great (like KWs) but if u dont do any kind of racing u will do fine, if you are looking for something better you should get a Proflex or a Ohlins suspension but we are talking over 7 times u want to buy.

If you want for race quality coilovers, if you want WRC u will see a driver from argentina named "Federico Villagra", well he pretty much copies the Proflex coilovers (with nitrogens tanks and all), for a much lower price, i think they will be arround £3000
