Are sport and cup springs the same? (172)

Just looked around and 172 cup dampers are so cheap I thought I may just put these on instead of risking going too hard with coilovers. Thing is when I've been searching there have been no mentions of prices for springs. Are they the same?

The springs are really expensive from Renault so most people replace them with Cooksport/Eibach springs. I'm pretty sure the 172/172 cup have different springs. If there is nothing wrong with your original springs then you can use them with the cup dampers.

They differ. They have colours painted on them to identifty.

A front cup spring will set you back 90 quid each. Have white and yellow paint marks on and are slightly lower and a bit stiffer than sport ones. They work well on bad roads though and I wouldn't go stiffer unless the local roads were in good Nick. The Cup ones cope with sudden bumps when your blaring along very well.

Even 172s had different spec springs depending on which way the wind was blowing in France at the time of build.

As willy says, the coloured painted dot on the spring is what you'll need if just replacing 1 or 2.

Sadly Cup springs along with Cup drive shafts are just unnecessarily expensive.

Peugeot springs are horribly expensive and a total sod to fit as well.

At least if you can get the top nut undone on the front the Clios are a piece of wee to change.
