Area Rep Applications

maybe i worded it wrongly.
Wales is a quiet region, hence no replys to the feedback thread
Wales is a quiet region because previously its been shuffled in with other regions
Wales will be a quiet region because of a lack of "splitting up"

all i was trying to say (as a welsh member who considered applying) is being a rep for the whole of wales is off-putting

(i appreciate you weren't to know due to the lack of replies in the other thread)

There's a surprising amount of us in the middle of Wales, for me the West Midlands Meet would be about an Hour and a Half each way to get to but as would the North Wales and South Wales meets be, however I've travelled this with other car clubs so I've applied as a rep :)

In all honesty. I was happy doing it more causally. I dont want to attend shows because Im expected too. Ive done it since you left and that will do me.
What you have to understand is that we dont expect 100% attendace to these events but we will however reward the reps that do produce a covoy of a certain amount for an event making the effort they put in worth while and also so they feel valued, at the end of the day reps get perks for helping us (such as free membership) but we do not pay you a wage as its a volutary role and things like family and work commitments stopping you from doing something we would not question.

I know what you mean about casual feeling of just sorting things for your area and we would like to keep that feeling within the area but as a club we have make sure we are getting the correct promotion hence why we ask the questions like " would you be willing to give up your time for CS events" because we cannot set some up as rep for them to turn round and say we I cant be bothered with this anymore and just stop doing things whilst retaining the free membership for carrying out a role.

these positions will be monitored and requirements have been set but i think 99.9% of people that have already applied are able to meet these without going out of their way with what they do already imo.

The best way to round this role up is a formal layout behind the scenes of the general forum to carry out an informal role, which for it work it cannot be any other way.

Fair, however;

Quite obvious that I'm not bothered about the incentives as I've done it for the past however long off my own back with no recognition, I merely said I wanted to retract my application.

It's a real shame mate. I don't see how we can give funding to an area if we don't have an official rep in place. That means that ultimately the members end up losing out.

I think you're reading way to much into it to be honest. We're certainly not going to be strict task masters about this. As long as your organising meets (which you've obviously been doing anyway) I don't see there being any issues.

I hope you change your mind.

I was debating applying. But I'm not so sure now. NW seems as dead as ever and we still need a better way to notify people of meets. Unless people are constantly checking the events section or the regional sections they won't know.

Ideally everyone should have to sign up to an area in their profile and then get notifications when a new event for that area is created. I've posted a meet up and the only person on CS to respond is someone who was tagged in the post and who I talk to most days outside of CS anyway. There are others who have replied to me outside of CS but it's the people I'd have just text and asked if they fancied going out for something to eat.

Mandatory region selection needs to be implemented for this to work IMO.

Also be able to browse the new to Cliosport section by region so you can find new comers and start chatting.

I agree with this. Knowing what members are in what region will help no end when trying to get a meet organised.

Yep to both the above. At present its actually harder to locate meets as no one has any idea where anything on this forum is.

I'm actually having to cancel the meet I planned on Wednesday as the only people coming are the people I see every week outside CS so we're just going to do something else that suits us better.

If I were picking a rep I'd be looking for a regular poster who seems popular with other members. For me they would also have to be quite sociable in the flesh too, as from experience many of the regulars on here are shy and quiet in real life. Not saying that's a bad thing, but I think a rep should have a certain kind of leadership presence about him/her.

I worked in Butlins many moons back - it's sort of similar I guess! ;)

.

Totally agree with the mandatory area selection and other stuff along those lines which is going to happen soon (once we have some reps to make it all work).

But to say it's currently harder to locate meets on the new forum makes no sense. All the regional forums are exactly the same, in exactly the same place as the old forum, except now it puts a massive banner along the top of the very same forum section showing the upcoming meets in that area, and also on the homepage. You'd have got no better response on the old forum tbh, which is exactly why we are focussing on new reps and the other tools like mentioned above to help them.

I suppose. Only thing that makes a difference is tagging isn't as effective. As default your alerts contain all your subscribed threads etc so its less prominent. Also once you click the alert button it marks them all as read so tags can get lost in it all.

Yeah, i think there might be something we can do about that. The problem we face is while it's definitely needed to make people as aware as possible about meets, people had a mental breakdown at a little red flag they couldn't get rid of, so you can imagine what people who aren't interested in attending meets will say if we get it wrong lol

Perhaps another tick box with location to say if you are interested in being notified of any local meets or not.
Make it default accept though obviously.

Could we put an alert at the top of the page when a new meet has been posted.

I know when the alerts are there I look at them as it's something that's in your face. Make it dismissible and there won't be anyone moaning.

It only needs to say "??? Meet (date) [link to thread]".

That way everyone in the fore mentioned mandatory location will see that meet and be able to rsvp. Just my 2 sense.

Just another thought, would there be any chance of area reps being able to create a poll in the local meet section? Would be a nice simple way of seeing what date/venue is the most popular, or to see how many people are saying they will attend?

I'd like to withdraw my application if that's OK. Something has come up which would mean I wouldn't be able to commit to being a rep.
