Argos messing up Wii shipments...?

I've heard several stories now that at the last minute Argos have had their allocation changed and won't be delivering Wii's to those that were guaranteed a Wii on the 8th when they ordered. Unfortunately for them they were quite vocal about guaranteeing people a delivered Wii on launch day.

You get an automated phone call if you have got one coming on Friday, and a personal call if you haven't made it into the initial batch (even if you have been told recently that you are getting one) and it seems there is little in the way of fairness as to how they are allocating them, as people have had calls to say they won't who have ordered way before those who have had an automated delivery call.

I've had nothing yet, so I don't know where that leaves me!

pre-orders are getting to be a bit of a joke these days, so many people being let down, all the companies seem to take many more than their allocation anyway, its ridiculous!

I have it in writing that they will deliver to me on the 8th, and last night I phoned to confirm as I have booked the day off. Yet apparently now anything said prior to today is redundant, and it all depends on which call you get.

As I have it in writing do I have any grounds for a swift refund if they fail to deliver?

argos are one of the few that charge you when you order as supposedly they are 'guaranteeing' you stock so if it doesn't arrive on launch day there is no problem in getting a refund, you haven't received goods you have paid for, but the problem is getting one from somewhere else, it might be worth just keeping with them as they might have a delivery a few days later?

chance you take i guess, Lee was saying there is supposed to be more in the country than people are making out so i'm not sure why this is happening with argos.

I missed a withheld call on the land line while I was on the phone to my girlfriend earlier.

They didn't leave a message though (bt callminder). Now I'm thinking that it was argos.

i heard they wouldn't send one to people who didn't answer the phone as they obviously weren't that bothered about receiving one! ;)

Bah!!!!

I wouldn't actually have much time to play with it this weekend anyway. From what I can gather, 12000 were delivered when they expected 17000. The other 5000 are stuck in germany and wont arrive in the UK until monday.

This is of course information from the internet, which may not or may not [sic] be factual. ;)

Another piece of internet information....

They were expecting 22,000 units on Friday and will receive only 18,000.

They blamed Nintendo strongly by name. They say other retailers will be affected too.

Allocation is according to location not date of order.

5 distribution depots are affected: Swindon, Notts, Preston, Warrington and one other which she was unsure of. (I'm in London and have had mine cancelled so not sure what to make of this).

Piss! I'm in Wiltshire!

Remember it may or may not be true. I don't think anybody really knows what's going on. The only fact is that retailers have not received their full allocations.

its always the same when new consoles are released these days. i think manufacturers do it on purpose to create this mass hysteria amongst the public

Last year i manged to source a 360 premium from Argos a week after release. I paid extra for delivery on the Friday and took the day off. Nothing turned up and when i rang (3/4 times) i got told a different story each time. One person told me there must be a mistake because they dont have any, one lad told me to cancel it and he could arrange to get me a core next day, all a bit of a joke really. Luckily it turned up on the saturday ???? ... strange how nobody knew what the f*k was goin on when i rang up ...
