Yeah, with a good exhaust they sound meaty though, dont look too bad either, but as you can see what zidan said, still not good overall.

Yes but as I said, for what they are...

I personally have done 0-60 is my 172 in 6.79 seconds.. (2 people in the car)

2.0 vs 2.0 Turbo charged,

If I put a turbo charger in my 172 I would be expecting a lot better than .19 off my 0-60 time.

If its a Mk3 (i.e. old shape to 1997), then there was no standard GSi 2.0 16v turbo available. I would imagine that it would be an engine conversion from the from the 200bhp Cavalier or Calibra turbos.

The Mk3 Astra GSi had the familiar red-top 150bhp 2.0 16v under the bonnet, though later models were offered with a choice of the 150bhp unit or a 130bhp unit. Despite their rather poo handling and rampant rust problems, I think its the best-looking Vauxhall to date. Just like lots of other older hot hatches (including the crap-looking but fire-breathing Mk2 Astra GSi 150bhp), it shows the 172 that searing straight line performance is not a new thing in hot hatch land.

Theres soon to be a Mk4 Astra GSi with the 197bhp 2.0 turbo unit from the Zafira GSi under its bonnet. Is that what the title is all about? Dont know much about it, but doubt itll be an all-round 172 beater.

Ive read the first test of that, its says it has a good chassis, so quite worrying as its faster than the 172 as well. They didnt compare it with anything though so well wait and see. Its still very boring though, and again, a vauxhall.

The boss at work has a 2001 Astra Turbo. The wheels and tyres (standard) look the business but at the end of the day, its still a Vauxhall!!



Lets not forget, the Astra is only 1 model up from "you know what"!

0-60 on a standard turbo fwd car is never gonna be alot faster than a hot hatch due to fwd traction problem, you need to look at 0-100 or 30-70 mph, once moving the accleration is hard for a NA car to match,

Yesterday we went to deliver our ferrets to a keeper whilst we are on holiday, and there was a brand spanking new Astra GSi Turbo in the driveway. The guy had it delivered last Saturday, and it is one of the first to be delivered. I have to say it looked the bollox, with leather Recaros etc. Hed sold a modified 260 bhp Celica GT4 for this and was well pleased after only 200 miles.

Id have one any day. And the best thing is, he promised me I could take it out when we are back from holiday!

my first car was a mk3 gsi 8v 115bhp and i was well impressed how it performed for a 9 year old car, the new astra turbo sounds nice on^paper but i saw one on a motor show and thought the leather recaros looked so cheap it wasnt woth the money to buy one.
