Got my mums pc here, looks like the heat sink has fallen off from one of the chips and looks unwell!

Who the hell sticks a heat sink on top of a hot chip ??? oh yeh.. that will be SONY !

I think its just the MOBO thats dead now (lots of verticle colours on screen when powered up)

Need to try and get a replacement if possible, the numbers are P4SD-VX i think its made by asus. Anyone konw of where i can get one cheap?

Swap the GFX card mate and see if the video card is at fault, if it's just the moterboard then might aswell get a newer model mate, what socket?

i would swop the gfx card... but to be honest, the chip looks fried on the mobo where the heat sink used to be.

Right you need a motherboard that uses Socket 478 mate, which is an old socket so most the new boards won't be suitable.

Seems to be the only commonly available board on that socket now, checked ebuyer/OCUK/Tekheads/Novetech/Komplett/Dabs.

do u have motherboards at work? its defo blown the chip, you can see it a mile off now ive got it in some bright light.
looks like its the main intel 865pe chip thats blown, was hopeing to get the same mobo again, but it looks like we will have to get an alternative. (or claim on insurace)
could prob pop it over at some point, but not sure what you could do with it tbh ????

we have a few mobo's in here, my boss used to do board repairs so he might be able to have a nosey. if you wanna drop it round the house, you are welcome to at anytime, just give us a quick ring to see if we are home
