At last i own a 172 Cup!!!

  172 Cup (Iceberg)
After about 2 years of dashed hopes and flirtations with a Peugeot 206 GTi and a Smart Roadster i have finally entered into the ownership of such a great car. Big grins all round for me.
Here is a pic of my new motor. (Sorry if it's a bit big! It's the only one i have!)

Thanks.... yes they are nice wheels (if a little dirty) . . . . i was driving it home, pulled into a lay-by, thought i'd take a quick pic and i just put the fogs on for the picture! Honest!

Looks nice, much better than your other two cars!

p.s. they'll burn you at the stake for having fogs on ;)

Still prefer the mondial blue though not a fan of silver cars.

The day I buy silver car is the day I get fed up with washing my car.

Wife has a silver Puma and washes it once a month if that.

F**cking thing still looks cleaner than mine .

Great!! So, other than the power, how you compare your 172 to your old 206gti and Smart Roadster?

Ah yes the power is the obvious one isn't it!......... I had no luck with the GTi at all....... the air con kept conking out on me for some strange reason and also the central locking never worked, it was full of little gremlins.... in effect i had a car that only locked by the key and the boot was constantly open! It also rattled quite alot!

The Smart was great at first (i got it in December 06) they are quicker than some people think, great fun handling, a bit like a go kart and it only took 25 quid to fill the tank and that would do 300+ miles, but the novelty quickly wore off and i couldn't really get by with just the 2 seats and not much boot space.

In comparison everything just 'feels' better with the 172. It is just far more superior in (almost, the Smarts fuel bill being the exception!) every way to my previous cars and i am greatly enjoying it! I'm planning on keeping it for a long time too!!

Aye, that is true...... i don't ever drive around with them on i sincerely just put them on for the pic. In hindsight i probably shouldn't have done lol.

Ha ha that's cool mate i get ya. I know how annoying it is when i'm blinded by some boy racer in his Nova or whatever they drive these days, with his fogs on AND (this annoys me more, actually) ...... a headlight that is out of alignment and pointing up straight into my rear view mirror!

I'm really getting into this lark........ Paid the fiver to become a member. I also ordered a window sticker, a tax disc holder in black and a key ring. Awesome.

Hey all. Not been on here for a while, thought I'd post an update.

Well, I still own my Silver Cup. It has been a great experience since I picked her up 7 years ago now. 7 years! Crazy how time flies. We're coming up to 80,000 miles on the clock now. Not really done much driving these past few years, got made redundant from work 2 years ago and had difficulty getting back into a well paid job so the car pretty much sat on the drive save the odd trip to the shops and to collect my winnings from the job centre.

I'm now working again and I have started doing little jobs on the car that needed doing. The washer pump stopped working completely the other week so purchased a new motor and now I have the most powerful jets I have ever seen, amazing what a new pump can do to your windscreen washing experience. Anyway....

Exhaust middle section snapped the other week, had to fit a new one, now the middle to cat section doesn't sit properly and is blowing, purchased a new gasket and will try and tackle that later this week and pack it with some gasket grease or something. I feel over these 7 years of ownership the exhaust has been the bane of my life. Had so many niggles with it and new sections I have lost count.

There's just a couple of things that are really starting to annoy me at the minute and that is my alloys (which I had painted black cos the silver had gone very tacky and almost brown) need a good refurb/repair job. Mainly because every week the pressure in them drops to about 16-20 bar. I had my tyres checked and was told the alloys were corroded and/or not seating? So that's a job for someone. I long for the time I don't have to pump my tyres up every 4 or 5 days.

Another thing is the paintwork on the rear left panel, the lacquer has cracked and it really does look hideous. I don't know what has caused this because I have always been one for good cleaning methods and looking after the paintwork. It just one day started to fade and before I knew it it looked like someone had thrown stripper over it. urgh.

But after all these years of ownership. And 7 years is a good stint for owning a car these days I think, well it is for me anyway. After all these years I wouldn't have changed anything with regards to buying my Cup. Loved every minute of it, the smile on the face when you get to open her up, the go-kart like handling, the shiny look after a clean and polish.

Sure, she is an 11-year-old motor now and getting tatty on the outside and I really wish I could afford to get her looking like new again. I look at the pic I posted of the car and don't recognise that car, sad I know. I'd like to think I can still own her for another few years but I am unsure now what to do. I am at a crossroads and wondering if it is time to say goodbye and leave behind the Clio ownership. But I don't think anyone would buy the car, it has no real value as such. It's more sentimental. Can't actually believe I am typing this to be honest but this rare breed of car really does tug at the old heartstrings.

So that is that for now. Some tough decisions up ahead.
