Audi Quattro

My landlord of where I have a unit had his Group B SWB Quattro out for a test today before it's shown at a local speed fair. Hopefully tomorrow I well get a run around the test they have set out.

I thought I would share some pics and vids as its one my favourite ever cars and I know there loved by many others too. The noise of them is got to be the best sound from any engine layout IMO.

Bit of history.

The car was built from scratch on the estate where I have my unit from a coupe shell, it was chopped joined and then fully caged. The engine in it just now has been de tuned to around 400bhp to meet regs so it can run in the Scottish rally championship.

What a noise.

My dad owns a 20v Audi Quattro UR Turbo, owned since new and only covered just over 5,000 miles. They are lovely cars, that SWB is a different league though.

The cars a little tatty up close but it can be expected for a gravel car, been a few years since it was refreshed. If I get a run in it today that will make my month lol.

Lawro, always wanted one but never got round to it. I will get one sometime after I have room along side my mint mk2 Escort (favourite car). Dreaming.
Your dads ones got to be worth a pretty penny know?

Yeah its no Audi sport works car being RHD and built by him/mates but it does have all the uprights, drivetrain and so on. A lot of the auxiliary stuff was custom too as you just can't get a hold of it. That one in the video looks to still have the full group b spec engine which will never be allowed to compete hence his being de tuned.

Yeah they seem to be fetching strong money now, especially after the ashes to ashes series. Although dad's is Alpine White rather than red.

It was just an excuse to post a Group B classic really.

Way back in the early 80's a guy my dad used to sell cars to was sold Michele Moutons (think that's how you spell it) group B rally car by Audi for £1 with a full spares package. This was so they could basically run a third works car.

At the time Audi claimed their cars were running 'about 500bhp'.
Apparently it maxed out the local 750bhp rollers!!
