auto dipped beam headlights

just realised that the "auto lights" my car has are actually referred to in the owners guide as "automatic dipped beam headlights" hence does this mean the car will never automatically switch on ONLY its sidelights??

i.e. in automatic mode the headlights will ALWAYS either be simply off or the dipped headlights will be on, but never just the sidelights, unless the stalk is set manually to the sidelights function.

also, should my autolights be switching themselves on at 5pm in clear daylight?? i.e. obviously its a stupid idea to have dipped headlights on in clear daylight, but do all clios switch their autolights on in 5pm daylight or is mine doing that mean they are gubbed?

Does it matter? I just drive with my lights on all the time anyway. why would you only ever want sidelights on?

why is it a stupid idea to have your lights on in clear daylight? at least if someone crashes into you theres no excuse of them not seeing you.

Having learnt on a motorbike (scooter hehe) it seems mad to me not to drive with lights on.

it will be law within 2 years to drive with lights on 24hrs a day. volvo's have had this system on their cars. safer for all of us. especially bikers (former biker :-( )

Yes, as you say the auto lights will always either be simply off or the dipped headlights will be on.

The auto's will turn on when the sensor detects it becoming darker so could be at any time even at 5pm in clear daylight if it detects the light going down a bit but like others have said its not such a bad idea to drive with lights on anyway especially if youve got xenons-looks good;) !!
