Aux belt...

What would a guide price be for a garage to change the aux belt on a 172? Sorry if it's been asked a fair bit b4, did have a quick search through threads.

How many miles is the car on ?? being an 02 reg it ought to have had the cambelt done too.

Has the cambelt been done? why is the aux belt being done. is a full kit being used?

Well it had its aux done at 42k (3years) and cambelt done at 69k last year by the previous owner. But on the reciept for the cambelt there's no mention of changing the aux belt, when I rang the garage they said they wouldn't have changed the aux belt if it was "perfect." But can't see how it could have been perfect. So thought I should probably get it done. Am I right in thinking if it snaps there's a good chance the cambelt will go aswell?

Can you not ring the previous owner & see ?? From reading on here, if it goes it's likely to take the other one out too.

I havn't got his number any more. From what the garage said I'm 99% certain they didn't change the aux belt, they said it would be stated on the reciept and it isn't. So think I'll have to get it done.

So just wondered what the going rate was?

From memory I dont think the aux belt is designed to be retensioned once its been removed if thats correct it needs to be done.

I can't remember the name of the garage, and the reciept is in the car. Don't think it was a specialist though. Can't understand why they wouldn't have changed it for the price of a belt.

I do plan on getting it done, just wondered about price?

well the kit that i would do. is 110 quid and its a 2.5 hour job so all in may be 200-250

Your right one tensioned it should never be retensioned

kit is around £110, i'd charge £80 to fit, its a 2.2hr job offically
