Badge snobs

  RS200
Since ordering my 200 i have been the victim of much ridicule
from friends and work mates for spending £15,000 on a RENAULT CLIO!!.
They all say omg you could have bought an old M3, a new style A3 a Merc, BMW 325i an Alfa GT the list goes on.
Its starting to get annoying and apart from the M3 which is nice but i,d never get insured there all so boring and more for comfort and showing off than actual driving pleasure!
I mean people with lots of money tend to miss out on such good cars like any renault sport clio or meg because it holds a renault badge. They might not have a million bhp but give it a twisty road and it will stick to most super cars arse worth 4-5 times the money.
So on that basis 15k is a bargain!
Does anyone else get these type of comments from friends and if so i want some witty comment to come back next time

  ibiza cupra
tell them that you would p**s all over all of them in your new car and say id rather spend my money on somthing that i want rather than what every one else has got.

As Revels said, they do kind of have a point. For 15k i'd have an M3 or a mk2 vee (Ok it's still got a renault badge, but meh) I'd never buy new (each to thier own etc etc)

  2 girls, 172 cup
a lad at work all ways used to take the p!$$ until i seen him in his (oap) jag x type v6, i think you preety much geuss why he doesn't say F all any more : D

I agree mate and the 200 is a cracking car.

They would probably be more impressed had you turned up in an 8 year old, £6k Audi TT. It's just how the world works! lol..

Volkswagen and Audi drivers are famous for this. It's probably cause they're jealeous. The 200 is an awesome car and deserves nothing but respect.

Tis True,

Anyone who spends 15k on a brand new Renault is mad. They are fantastic cars, but they lose too much money new for me.

so true!

I get it all the time. I mostly get " would you stop washing it, its only a f**king clio". lol,

My reply is "aye a clio that would put all your motors to shame :approve:"

  RS200
If money wasnt an option i would get the new golf gti because i think its the best all round hot hatch but at a basic of about 21k its too much.
Honestly if i was a millionaire a clio RS would be in my garage right next to the RS4 and M3 lol

In all fairness though, i think there are two sides to this.

1) An M3 is more of a car, not just down to badge snobbery etc, but they are obviously better than a Clio due to power, trim, top of the range 3 series (In my eyes and most others) in which case, it isnt down to the badge snobery, its the car itself.

2) If they were saying you could have an 09 plate Audi 2.0Tdi instead, then id consider that down to badge snobbery as it is a bit less of a car (Poorer trim, power, Not top of the range etc)

I think id rather an M3 dependant on insurance differences, but thats me. I know lots of people who would rather new cars, just 6 of one, half a dozen the other tbf

At the end of the day, an E46 M3 is very nice for the money, but the OP said that he can't get insured on one, also the running costs would be a lot lot higher than the clio, so I see where's he coming from.
So based on that, deffo get a vee ;)

- OP dude, how old are you btw ?

With out a shadow of a doubt an M3 is a better car than the 200 in pretty much every way apart from fuel economy maybe.
But would 15 k get u a good M3 or a rough one?
I,d say even people who can afford 20-30 grand for a second hand sports car would consider getting a hot hatch cos of their great performance and fairly cheap running costs. An M3 is probably going to set your back a 10k a year for service/fuel/tyres etc

Top Car for your age tbf. Not suprised you cant get insured on an M3 lol!

Could on something like a Megane R26 but much faster and the premiums will rocket!

Your money, your car, your choice - end of. You can dispose of your income as you see fit and damn the doubters to Hades.

If you've got the car you want then that's all that counts, no matter what you paid.

I wouldn't buy a new car but that's my choice. F**k badge snobbery!

Thanks yeah there is a part of me that thinks im being stupid for buying a new car i need to get out of the habbit. (last car was new too) Ive decided when i move out in a year or 2 im going to sell the clio and get a nice 3-4k focus st170 or a 172 or sumthing

How much will it lose in a year?

Buy the ST170 now for 3-4k, and in a year, its cost you nothing ;)

  RS200
well without options the 200 is just under 17k so in 18 months i rekon 12-13k for it.
If i do that i,ll never have my clio! :( lol
since i set eyes on the 197 ive had to have one and now the 200 is even better imo

The badge snobs just use them as fashion labels, if they really knew their s**t they'd be driving around in a Hyundai as they are allegedly the most reliable and value for money car if the experts are anything to go buy.

Renaults have never really had a great reputation with reliablity, then again neither has a TVR.

Plus if these blokes wanted pure performance they could pick up an old P reg Evo for £4k.

Ignore the snobs!

badge snobbery is part of the fun of owning a car from the rs range. watching the slapped faces when their 'cool' car will not get past the little renault :)

15k or whatever IS a lot for a car tho, although the 200 is a great car, its still a big price tag (that will depreciate a lot), but if its what you want and your happy with it. thats all that counts imo

I think the Hyundai is overlooked due to how they look. Plus, 2.5 V6 isn't impressing anyone!

Take them out in your new car when you get it and press the loud pedal firmly.

That will shut them up

  RS200
15k is a lot of money its a huge amount of money in any respect but when you put it in terms of pound for pound cars its good for the performance levels you get.

  PS 200
How you spend you money is entirely up to you.

£15k could get you a whole lot of different cars - I don't think you're going to be disappointed with your purchase

Once you get your car - take the snobs out for a drive so they can see why you've made your choice :D

  Nimbus 197
For what I paid for my 197 I could have bought an 8 year old 330ci, a million mile M3, a 5-6 year old TT, etc etc etc

BUT, I could not have bought another car with the same power, with the same mileage, at the same price.

Plus, I kinda like my Clio, it suits me down to the ground and is bloody nice to drive!

I have big barges as company cars, why would I want one for weekend blasts ;)

My reply to this would be.... exuse me but this is NOT an ordinary run of the mill clio but a renault clio renaultsport..... but then saying that if they know jack s**t about cars you might be waisting your breath! but we know our rs models are special
