Ball joints !?

  2004 iceberg 172
Just bought some ball joints from euro car parts, had them on a week and it honestly feels like my wheels are going to fall off... What's wrong, everything's tightened properly, also think they've knackered my wheel bearings as I now have a lot of whiring from the two front wheels, they were the correct ones 12mm hole as he asked if they were 10 or 12

Help

If you fitted them yourself, after fitting them did you get it tracked?

Guessing you got the dearer option (Lemforder) q-drive are a bag of nails and the threads fall apart.

I found them a nonse to tighten the bolts.

you should have kept the original bolts in the arm, they fit best.

I thought you didnt need to get the wheel alignment changed after ball joints? thought it was just track rods?

Ive bought the cheaper option of ECP, not expecting them to last as long as the Lemforder though.

always needs checking, manufacturing tollerences can move things around. Shouldn't be far out though.

Cheaper option as you say, probably won't last as long, but they are still ok. I never used Q-drive, but i've used a dozen brands roughly and not had any come back with issues. Generally use Lemforder though

Ok cheers Dan, Just need to get through the MOT then i'll go from there.

For the OP could changing the ball joints finish off wheel bearings? or will it be something else?

Well my ball joints were shot, as in I could rattle the 'ball' around the socket.

So tracking made a massive difference plus my steering wheel wasn't aligning when I drive straight.

Hard to tighten, as in fiddly.

I had to lodge a spanner to hold the bolt whilst torquing the nut.

I had tried q-drive ones before the lemforder ones, my dad ordered them I had no say and the thread on the nyloc nut 'went'. Returned them.

I torqued them upto 20nm too.

Used the original bolts in the end too.

I work for ECPs and its always better to spend an extra few ££s on the decent stuff.

There is a few non-brand names that i would deff not use and would avoid at all costs.
