Bang/Rattle after service and cambelt change

  Recaro + Cupped 182
Hi There,

Just got my 182 back from a service and every time I come off even the slightest of curbs a loud bang comes from the engine bay. When on full lock It also makes a clunking/knocking noise, very strange.

Any suggestions of what either of these things are would be greatly received!

check the fuel rail guard at the front of the engine. it's held on by two nuts - possibly not done up tight enough?

If a mounting is worn and then has been disturbed, would that make it more noticeable that there is a fault there then?

Good shouts guys, thanks for that. If I rattel the engine it wont do it, wierd. Also the creaking on full lock is a bit of a worry.

The knock sounds like its coming from Low down in the engine bay, which engine mount would it be do you think?

Sorry to be a cheeky git/r****d, does anyone have a pic of the fuel rail guard they could show me?

The fuel rail guard is the most forward piece of metal on the front of the engine near the top, it bold over the fuel rail, theres 3 holes in the front of it, 2 of them should have bolts inside them and they should be tight.

That doesn't seem loose, what size are the bolts? Where are all the engine mounts located? Is it easy to tighten them up?

Either 10mm or 13mm - something like that anyways. You'll need a long reach (deep) socket to reach the nut.

Did you have the cambelt done? If so they will have loosened the Drivers side engine mount to partially lift the engine out, as Fred says they may not have done it up again tight enough.

where did you have it done to mate. im willing to have a listen im in kingswood

That's most kind! I might take you up on that. I got it done at Renault Portishead, I'll take it back and see what they say.

Does anyone know what this pipe might connect to? (comes from the back of the airbox)

Also, this other pipe is unclipped which makes me think they may not have put much effort into the job.

Is this the engine mount that needs loosening? it does look like its shifted from its previous position:

Also, Are the strut tops supposed to look like this? There seems to be alot of creaking on full lock at the moment:

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all your help!

Top mounts look totally normal

Clip the pipe back in, they can and do pop out sometimes, its only a little plastic clip

the top hose you show is the breather hose, goes to the back of the head just under the inlet manifold, pipe sticks out horizontal directed towards the header tank

if you loosen the 4 16m Hex heads and pull the engine forward it will put it back to its original position

Thanks for that, Will give those suggestions a go! What do you think could be causing the knocking/banging when the car is on full lock in either direction?

thats normal for the top mounts to knock.

you can space replace the mount with solid ones, or put some washers in to space it out a little or grind the metal from the turret (renault type fix) to get rid of that

Cool, I saw the solid ones on your website, do they help any other aspect of the handling? Would it stop the knocking/banging/feeling like the car is climbing over it's own wheels on full lock? Sorry if that sounds stupid, I cant think of another way to describe it!
