Make sure you get one of them XS blow off valves, theyre supposed to scare the sh*t out of people as you go past!

Whats a brabus smart?

It sounds like a car! If so, does your dad own a garage or something?

He seems to have quite a few upmarket cars! What with the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage and an M3 Beemer. What else have you got on your drive in between those security poles?? What is a brabus smart??

and why do you live in a sh*tty area with them lot!!??

Nick: it was a XR2i with a FRST engine i think, nice but i really dont think 240bhp will drop you that low!!!

It takes posche 450bhp and 4wd to do that. And many other super cars with 550bhp and 4wd can do 3.8........so..

ben, i agree about the traction problems, but remember the clio weighs about 600kgs less than a 911.

it wont get in the fours, but the 30-70 will be pretty impressive with well over 200bhp / tonne

I think the Clio ways quite a bit more than 600kg. 137bhp in a 600kg car would give 228bhp/tonne. Which would be Evo VI kinda performance.

GR - Its a Smart car, but tuned by Brabus (for some strange and unknown reason). Personally I think the best place for a smart car is a breakers yard.!! ;)

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..

one of the reasons i wanted to know any performance figures eg 0-60, is because im trying to get an idea of the turbo upgrade, as i will have a conversion for mine when it is ready. does anybody know any performance figures for the 1.8 clio as standard?

y not just plump for a 2 litre transplant with bodies head n cams????????

cost should be around £3500 mark n i reckon theyll be puttin out (well on mine anyway lol) 220 -240 bhp at the fly easy. but thats also 220-240 bhp permanantly. i.e. no lag waiting for the turbo to cut in , an i also reckon there wont be much in it between the HIGH BOOST 1800 TURBO n the N/A 1998 THROTTLE BODIED cars........except where it comes to reliability, where the 1998 should have the edge on not breaking

I agree with you, 2live, as Im going the 2.0l, TBs, Head and Cams route too, but mainly coz I dont believe in forced induction.

But theres no way youll ever keep up with a high boost 1764cc, BBPT reckon good for 300bhp and 400bhp in bursts!!:D

What you want is the above spec. with N2O.

lol well you know me Jon, I aint claiming definite times until weve gone head to head on the quarter mile, then well know for sure. I wouldnt worry about waiting for the turbo to spin up though mate. With something stupid like 150bhp or so at under 2500 revs, Ill be long gone while youre still waiting to get into your narrow 7000+ power band mate. Remember my 240bhp is also permanently, it doesnt disappear and its always there whenever you put your foot down. Plus seeing as the high boost conversion is a rebuilt low compression block theres no reliability problem. This thing idles like a factory car and will pass an MOT emissions test, so I reckon its likely to be more reliable than something with wild cams and drastic head work.

  BMW 320d Sport

BTW Once im done with a few basic bits of lightening, my Clios only gonna weigh 950kg top whack.A lot less than a 911 as Steve pointed out. Plus an Evo loses a load of power through 4wd transmission, which a fwd car doesnt lose so much of. Put two identical cars with identical engines, one with 4wd and one with 2wd, on a 10mph rolling start and the 2wd car will accelerate faster than the 4wd because it can lay more power down. The only advantage 4wd has is off the line because you can abuse the 4wd system and get going without losing traction by dumping the clutch, destroying your transmission in about 3 starts. A dubious advantage in my book...

See the post about the Clios rally heritage ie Maxi Clio vs 4wd rally cars and youll see the truth of the matter -4wd isnt everything and loads of power in a fwd car can work - in particular in a Clio

As Nick says, in the early-to-mid 1990s, the Clio 16v-based Maxi was pushing the FWD concept further and further. On the tarmac and gravel stages, it was coming close to the 4WD turbo nutters such as the likes of the Escort Cosworth, Evo 2 and Scooby - but not close enough.

So in 1993, Renault took full advantage of the regualtions - which said that engine capacity was allowed up to 2000cc. So Renault reworked the trusty 1.8 16v lump and came up with the 2.0; the one that was homologated in the Clio Williams. After this move, the FWD Clio Maxi was in fact bettering the times of the 4WD turbo crew on the tarmac - the Clio Maxi still holds many tarmac stage records, including the Tour de Corse.

Sadly, the rules changed soon after - restricting the NA catergory to 1600cc. Some say it was because the Maxi was taking too many turbo 4WD scalps from the big boys...

yeah yeah i know all bout the clio overtaking the 5 on the Tour de Corse and iv read all about it lol

but the fact is theres no substitute for ccs . sure theres turbos nos blowers etc. but think of the gains those will make on a bigger engine. as well as all te other mods that can be done too. sure some engines are more tweekable than others, and some are made for these additions..... others arent and people spend a lot of money making the ones that arent made for these work with them, but for how long?????????

Id love a turbo conversion, but am also weighing up the Maxi. Will be running into some dosh late this summer.

  350z & 16v Maxi

Nick I would travel all the way from Scotland just to sit in the passengers seat of your turbo, I would rather sit in that then a Ferrari or any supercar. I will be going for the full high pressure turbo in a couple of years when my miles are a bit higher to make my car more reliable as the engine will be full rebuilt but also for that awesome power. The Clio Turbo rules!!! TBs are cool too but people who say they prefer TBs I personally dont feel they have sat in a high pressure turbo charged car. However it is all personal opinion and each to their own and all that!!!

Well GR - there you have it! Thats the Maxi! Ill be keeping my car in the pearlescent black if I got ahead with it, but no spoiler for me - I like my car subtle.

I notice that the third picture of the standard Valver with the open bonnet on the link above to Colins webpage is none other than my car!

I might well be up in Edinburgh for good later this year. If so, I definitely want to see this Maxi!

  350z & 16v Maxi

I live about 1 1/2 hours from Edinburgh but we could have a meet at Strathy Park which is about 1/2 way.

Yea Ben i had no pics of mine as standard so had to steel other peoples pics.

That car looks F A B

I LOVE ITILOVE ITILOVE ITILOVE ITILOVE ITILOVE IT

either blue or black looks great.

lol yeah thats real subtle Ben, no spoiler but a bloody great wide arch kit that knocks over passers by if you drive too close to the kerb!

I have a gray 16 valver and have sent it down to BB tuning to have low boost turbo conversion this should return me around 200 to 220 BHP and similar torque figures, i have looked at other conversions from various companys such as K-Tec and yes it is half the price but its half the job bolt on a turbo slap an extra injector on and your well away (for about 10 miles, and then you phone the R.A.C up) what im trying to say is that BB Tuning have been working flat out for a whole year testing everything that goes into the conversion charge coolers, manifolds, air filters, injectors, E.C.U boards etc etc they know there stuff and the put it into practice well and have shown us with there demo car (Nick would not go unless he thought the conversion was 110%) they have an option list as well which includes low temp thermostat and low temp fan switch, so when i get my Clio back it should run cooler than before even stuck in traffic (or the que for the strip at Santa Pod) cheers Matt.

P.S saw your car on Friday Nick Those are some meaty wheels, oh and any idea when you are getting your Clio back mate Andy said 2 to 3 weeks for mine due to me having black samco hoses, speak to you later Matt.

  BMW 320d Sport

Hi Matt, well mines probably due by the end of January, cos I want yellow hoses! Being the first few turbos theyre doing its not like theyve got all the colours on the shelf yet...Ive still got to get some of my metalwork back to them as well, getting the rocker cover, inlet manifold, bonnet vent and rocker cover chromed

Allright Nick, dam how much money are you spending i just wish i could get it all done at once, saying that though i have had all the options and it lowerd oh and a cat replacement. Do you know whos the Naples red vaver is at BB its parked in front of yours and according to Andy it to is having the coversion aswell anyone from Cliosport ? seriously without sounding to nosey how much are you spending with BB im budgeting to about £6500, Matt.

P.S where or who do you recomend for me to go and see about geting some 4 pots?

  BMW 320d Sport

hehe Im spending a lot but its not my money its the banks! Well the only naples red 16v in the area I can think of is Johns (night.icon) but hes only having that turbo conversion in his dreams. Im spending the full whack on it, but Ive clawed quite a lot back from selling bits off my car to get it back to standard before the conversion work starts, and remember the high boost version includes a lot of the stuff that is optional on the low boost job.

Hi Spec will do your brakes, but BB will do the same thing for you so have a word with them. Im getting mine done at Hi Spec cos Im doing mine in stages, so first its getting the turbo done at BB, plus fitting roll cage and bucket seats while its there, then the brakes, then getting quad lights, bumper mods, spraying done all in one go...a lot of work to be done between now and February!

better employ a security guard wehen its finish Nick, if some thieving toe rag gets hold of it it would be heart breaking,

we must be talking a 5 figure sum for that lot

sorry for being rude, but thats alot of work

  BMW 320d Sport

Lofty what were you rude about? I must have missed something? Dont worry there are going to be a lot of top secret mods that will be going on to the security system that are not going to be publicised on here. Lets just say any thieving toe rag touches my car they might be in for a shock, in fact theyll be doing well to even get inside it. Plus I never park my car out of my sight anyway.

Ben Im not going for any kind of lairy bodykit or anything thats not my style, from the outside itll look roughly the same as it does now, except with quad headlights and a proper respray. And no locks.

Pete - it would be nice to be asked to do a feature, but I dont want one, Id rather keep a low profile!
