Belt kit.

So... As ive searched about the forum, by the sounds of my car and the threads on here i'd say my 172 needs the ''belts'' done.

I dont know much about engines, im just wondering if someone could tell me which parts exactly that i would need done.

its a 2003 172 WITH aircon. the car has covered 85k, the previous owner said the belts were changed at 65k but he had no proof.
when the car is on idle, it makes a pretty loud noise as if its a belt thats about to go, and when i get to about 4000 rpm there are some flat spots in the accelaration, i read this can be caused by a worn dephaser pulley.

any info would be much appreciated, thanks.

yeah id get em done to be honest, even if he had them done at 65k its still 30k ago. loud noise rattly will be the dephaser more than likely. flat spots i have no idea

Just called renault and I'm looking at 900 plus the labour for the dephaser pulley?

And 66 quidfor diagnostics to find out why I've got flat spots :l

Ouch, worst thing is if you're are wanting to get it one properly where you are it means taking it to them. Long trip to Birchdown or BTM otherwise.

Yeah its a b**ch living up here!! Think the best thing to do is... Seeing as the dephaser needs done, ill get the belts done and if that doesn't stop the flat spots, ill get the diagnostics after, could save myself the 66!

Quote from Ness motors, renault up in inverness for doing my beltsm 1,100.. Anyone have any idea why this is so high compared to others?

Best thing to do would be go to a specialist or someone who know what they are doing.

You'll be looking at about £600 for both belts and a new dephaser pulley, you might find the timing is out and that's why you are having flat spots.

Is that 600 for the parts or the labour too? I live in the highland of sccotland. I don't know anyone that would know about these things tbh.

I can't really ship the car because I need it for work. Best I could do would be to put it into the garage for a day and get it the next day.

Jam I asking for thecorrect things... Timing belt kit, camshaft dephaser pulley kitand the other small parts?

If I were to ship it down to you, get the work done, and get it shipped back, do you know how long that would take? And as for that 100 each way, does the distance come into that or is that from anywhere in the UK?

  Lionel Richie
i'll have a word with the lad who arranged it, realistically its a week turn around (due to the shipping) the work only takes 1 day

If its ok with you, I'm going to call renault and ask which parts exactly I was quoted for, and ill pm you and you can tell me if that's correct or not? Thanks for the info so far!

i would take it to swr in stirling, renault specialists who have been getting good name from a few people on here who stay in scotland, im going to take my 172 to them to get the air con removed with the cup kit iv got hold off, they quote £380 for belts, obviously will be more if u need the dephaser done as well. give them a bell.

Just. Called SWR and got a quote for timing belt kit and aux belt kit, 380, + dephaser pulley for 186. Total of 566. Hoe can renault justify charging 1100 to do the same job? What c***s

Thanks a lot for that tip off yee!

Just went out in the car, stopped at the bank, got out and left the car running, got back in and there were warning lights flashing at me, battery light, service light, stop light, AbS light, and I think all other warning lights. I turned the car off and went to turn it back on but it wouldn't start...

Turning the key and its making a ticking noise, think that's the starter? When I turn the key, all wrning lights flash and the headlights+ interior lights are all flashing.

Anyone have ANY ideas? Seems like a loos connection or something...
