Belt squeal?

  Ph1 172.
Over the last week my car has developed a squeal upon starting up. It started as an occasional squeal, now it does it pretty much every time the car starts. It turns over, then there is a short high pitch squeal lasting about 1/3 of a second, which then stops and the car runs as normal. I can get a video of the squeal uploaded tonight if it's any help.

The cambelt was changed 6 1/2 months ago and the aux belt and tensioners were replaced about 5 months ago (I asked to have them done at the same time, but the garage didn't)

Any suggestions? The car is in for an interim service and MOT in 2 weeks.

Cheers guys.

You 100% sure the aux belt was done? (inc tensioners)

I bloody hope so the amount they charged me! I went to a different garage this time, a Renault specialist in Colchester. They showed me the knackered idler that they has taken off, that grinded when spun by hand. The constant, never ending whining noise my car made before stopped.

My original thread regarding my constant whine.

I also have this problem. Has just started to happen and the cambelt/auxillary belt, tensioners and dephaser were all replaced last year by Ren-O-Tech?

I had this, Only a couple of days ago. Gradually got worse until I saw coolant pissed all over aux belt area where water pump seal had gone. Apparently it's uncommon for them to go but worth a check ;X

yeah i recon it's the battery just starting to get a bit weak. Belt slips briefly to start as the alternator is working harder

I had the same problem, replaced the battery, and the squeal continue while start in the morning.

The problem usually occur when the car rests more than 10 hours, less than that no squeals at all.

The cam and aux belt was replaced include the tension about 18 months ago.

any ideas?

That's an annoying one, I'd say your belt tensioner needs checking for correct function. How many miles has it done since the aux belt was fitted?

I have found that this squeal happens usually after cold nights, although in my country cold night equals below 23 degrees Celsius.

The squeal happens after I leave the turn on key and the engine make few sparks, than two squeals and everything is OK after.
