Belts Changing on a 1.2 16v

  172
I have read that for RS models of the clio you need to go to specialists to get the cars belts changed timing etc
For my 1.2 can i take a local garage or do i need to also go to a specialist.

Also how much do you think it will cost me (ball part figure)

Cheers

no its not a specialist job, just a common sense one LOL!

not at all hard, takes 2-3 hours tops, you MUST change the waterpump also

think we charge cira £275 with spark plugs and a full service included, approx £200 without the service (i'm guessing slightly as i'm half asleep and my work laptop is at work!)

  Edition 30
£275 including a full service? May be in touch soon!

I presume it's a similar price for a 1.6?

as i said i'm guessing slightly as i'm not at work (we don't do them very often, just bloody 172/182/197/225 etc everywhere!!)

1.6 is more money unfortunatley, its basically a baby 172 engine, think we're around £300 for them (no service)

  Edition 30
You got me all excited! Well I got myself all excited, but at least I know now as they are due soon :)

Mick Diamond (sounds like a 70's p**n star name) is near you, he rambles on a bit but is a good bloke ;)

Might be having a meet at his place. I'll tell him you said 250 all in and see what he says ;)

Ren7oaks in Kent are charging me £275 for cambelt and aux belt alone. Waterpump is another £100 or so on our 1.2 16v
Why are all the good garages so far away :(

Its worth travelling. Next time my 182 needs a service or repair I'll be straight on the M6 to BTM.

At least i don't have girls wrists lolz

I am just looking at my belt prices properly this week and im sure we can do the K4M with water pump for less than £400.

Mick

All in for Aux kit, Cambelt Kit, and waterpump @ Ren7oaks was £380.
Thought that was pretty decent till I read Fred's price which includes a full service :(

Trouble with travelling is the saving you make probably cancels out in terms of petrol it costs to get up there and back

My record 1.2 16v timing belt change with air con is 42 minutes and 33 seconds. Boshed one out on Saturday on my drive within the hour, easy £100 for me.

you're not driving a V8 though are you! petrol to birmingham (or wherever) and back will be £50 tops i would assume?

But if say we take the £275 + £50 for fuel, isn't that far away from the price I paid. And when you take into account all the effort/hassle of driving up there, what I do whilst I'm up there, time, organising etc, is it really worth it in the end!?

Rarely change belts on anything thats done over 50k at the stealers, thats whys pumps are ok 90% of the time. Did have to change a friends one saying that, had only done 23k and was hacking out coolant.

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
yeah AC car but not changing the pump (very low miles sales cars i was working on at the time)
Couldn't do one that quick now as I rarely see a 1.2 anymore, but i was doing 4 per day at the time
