Belts & Strange Noises

  Ph2 172
Do anyone know somewhere local to basildon who specialize in renault sports?

I have been informed by a few friends that my dephazer pulley is in need of replacing because my car sounds like a tractor,

It also sounds like a turbo'd clio when i play with the throttle at a standstill which i was informed may be the fan belt tensioner,

And now for the last 2 day, when i accelerate hard between about 3k - 5k revs theres a horrible lous grinding noise, which i was told could be the gear box :(

I only bought the car 4 days ago and non of these issues happened when i drove it home?:mad:

Could you clio gurus let me know if these sytptoms sounds about right and is it worth me getting it put into a garage to have everything assesed??

not good mate get it booked into a specialist straight away ,if i was you i wouldnt drive it time bomb waiting to go off mate especialy accelerating hard,if it is the aux belt tensioner and it fails it shall cause the belt to come off/snap and in most cases it wraps itself round the bottom pulley taking the timing belt out also, then its a new engine jobba.

welcome to rs clios.

Firstly, stop driving it.

It sounds like you need a full belt and dephaser pulley kit. It might be worth trying to get it up to Fred at BTM, or Danny at 519, both who would do a great price and offer second to none service. Whilst it's there, I'm sure they'll advise on the grinding.

Having the belts done is a once per 5 year thing, so it's not too much of an expense.

Sounds like the aux idler is about to fail. Needs looking at properly to tell what's doing on though. Call me rather than PMing :)

I don't mean to sound like a tosser, but you should have considered servicing costs before buying the car.

Just because the cost 2k now, the servicing is still that of a car that cost 18k or whatever new.

beat me to it rob, plus that is why these are going for 2k and under because they have not been looked after and are dogs.

You did just sound like one lol i was asking for advice

I was in the process of selling my fiesta when i bought this, unfortunatley the day after i bought this the fiesta water pump decided to kill itself and thats a costly repair that i will also need to pay out on,

I always knew that these were costly cars to maintain but to need to pay out £700 4 days after paying for the purchase of the car.. You can see why its going t be a struggle just now to get it all repaired...

I know you're only asking for advice, and I was trying to provide it, but I was just pointing out the facts.

Yes I can see why it's going to be a struggle, definitely, but did you do a decent amount of research before buying the car? Check the services etc?

If not, then you're the only one to blame really. I'll admit it's unlucky but there's not much you can do about it really. If you ignore it and it goes, then you'll be sorry as it'd be cheaper to scrap it and buy another.

Ease up Rob, issues develop with no warning, you've had enough things go wrong on yours and moan about the cost

you are unlucky but i agree with rob, with the fiesta and the water pump was that wear and tear and not replaced when needed or just went?

No signs of damage before hand it went into the garage for a general check over as i'd replaced all standard items and done the work myself so as a cautionary check i put it in to make sure everything was correctly tightened and generally road worthy, there was also a small leak around the gear selector so i also wanted to find out if that was just the seal that needed replacing, turns out whilst under there they noticed the water pump was "leaking like a siv" the description i got :( however ive never noticed the water bottle level change :S oh well thats another story

As i said i know these are very highly strung cars, and it did come with full service histroy the cambelt was replaced under 2 years ago and i have the recipt to proove so i guess its just down to very bad luck, as you cant hear these problems until the car is fully warmed up, obviously the test drive around the block wasnt enough, i dont like all the jumping down throats that goes around i was only really asking a question and my personal circumstances mean i will strugle to find the money, the parents will be called upon for this one i think.

I said i'd call you a lunch danny sorry wasnt possible works v busy today but i got off work at 4pm so be expecting a call about 4:30 when i get home and ill arrange to take the drive up, at the end of the day it needs fixing, and what are parents for anyways ;)

Dont wish to sound harsh mate but it sounds like you have bourght one of those BARGAIN 172s that many people on here keep saying "thats all they are worth" you might as well break them etc etc . cheap ones are cheap for a reason ! Many people on here reckon that you can get a minter for 2k simple fact is YOU CANT.It only ends up costing you as much in the long run as paying for a mint low owner fsh 172 .

Hope you sort it by the way thou mate .

Yeah well the problem is when i took i for a second test i herd a slight tapping noise so i told the guy to have it put into a garage and let me know the results, i should have had it checked indepdantly i know but its hard to arrange that when its not your car and they based a little bit away from you, it came back as a fan belt tensioner that needed replacing,

Im not expert on cars and acepted that would be what the noise was after reading from this forum etc and it seems to match the desciptions, long and short i only paid £1700 for the car with a view that i could have the belt replaced for £200 at a local garage, the car was only on 52,000 and the cam belt was done at something like 34,000 and only two years previous + 2 owners

So at the price i got it for i was pretty happy with that, it had just had two new tyres, brake pads and a couple of other bits, and a fresh mot!
But i guess you win some you loose some, ill get it booked in with danny as ive only been hearing good things and bite the bullet for repairs and fingers crossed no major faults will appear in the next few months whilst im paying it off ;)

All im thinking is that the, ARB, ktec racing racing engine mounts, v6 airbox, and half decent brake setup could have been purchased for the cost lol! BOOOO
