Best 21.5" monitor?

Been a long old while since I've bought a monitor... but it's time for a little upgrade.

What's the latest technology out there? Cost isn't an issue within reason! Want one that actually looks nice in its design too if possible

No connections will be used other than the HDMI slot. Oh and the source it'll be attached to can run a maximum resolution of 2560x1600.

If you could I would honesty say go 24", 21.5's all tend to be on the low end of the market and their price shows it. No one really buys them so not a huge choice.

However, probably looking at a Dell Ultrasharp 22" as about the top end you will go. Around £250. Then you have something like the ASUS VX229H at £130.

You don't get many monitors at 21/22" as basically 24" is seen as the size where the enthusiast market starts. That is now shifting more to 27/28" as that is where the 4K monitors start.

This really. I would highly recommend at least 24", it wouldn't use much more space at all really.

What's the monitor going to be mainly used for? Gaming or photo editing etc?

Thing is I've used bigger screens before and tbh I just don't like them, far too overbearing for me. My monitor atm is 20" and it's pretty much perfect for me, but I did use a 21.5" iMac recently and thought it was spot on! Much prefer that the the 27" version. All I'll be doing on it is general browsing really, but I do have an eye condition which can make black writing appear more faintly than it should so I need good quality and deep blacks so things appear to 'pop' out of the screen if you get what I mean!

That will certainly do the job mate. If it's not for gaming you should definitely get an IPS panel which the Acer is. I used a 26" monitor temporarily a while back and in all honesty I hated it! I don't know why really, but it's just not for me

Comparing the Acer to ASUS there seems to be only one difference in specification really... the Acer has a higher contrast ratio, whereas the ASUS has a faster response time. Either one more important than the other? Must admit I do like the bezel on the ASUS though, looks a lot more slimline!

they only make monitors so unless you looked for them you might not of seen them.

they tend not to make gaming monitors but just general purpose ones

I got this one on a budget to hook upto my 13" MacBook Pro and I think it's great, it has a super clear picture and for just over £100 for the 24" it's very well priced.

Got them ones at work,i thought the colours were pretty naff on it.

I've got a 23" Dell Ultrasharp and I think that it is spot on.

Dell is about the best is that size with the Iiyama and Asus following. Acer is more budget, Iiyama used to be very good when it came to monitors.

However, if you have only used a large monitor for a short space of time it will feel big. While once you get used to it anything smaller will feel tiny. My current setup is four 24" monitors. Three on the bottom and one above the central screen. I used to think a single 24" would be fine. Now I find it very limiting when working if I have to only use a 24" single screen.

The Dell does look good, it seems as if Dell don't do their UltraSharp range in 21.5" though, well not with the thin bezel.

Ordered the ASUS and it came the other day, it's very nice actually... but, it's wonky :S when you tighten the bolt that goes into the base it goes on the piss. Difference between one end to the other is about a centimetre. Could probably live with it if I didn't have OCD lol, darn it, gonna have to go back I think.

Don't tighten it so much? Or hold it while tightening the bolt.

Tried it 20+ times with various methods... no chance if you don't tighten it, it doesn't feel safe and it bounces around as you type lol... it's going back. Really put me off eBuyer though, returns are a real hassle there.

You will get used to the size and wonder why you were going to buy a smaller one.
