Try Vuze, it has a built in converter. I have used it a few times on the Mac, can you Vuze for the PC aswell.

Using hanbrake now lol, nice and simple - converting now hope it works.

All you had to do was drag your avi files to the iTunes device in Vuze.

Handbrake is a very good program. I forgot about that.

cool just picked up handbreak now....is it realy as simple as

select the iphone preset
under "source" select the video you want to convert
destination - obviously where you want the output saved

then hit start?

Should try super c, pain in the neck - had the worst ui I have ever seen and it didn't work.

There is also a simplified handbrake (based on the handbrake source) called vidcoder. It makes things really simple for the people who can't manage handbrake.

just downloaded handbrake, its takes ages to convert a film! like 4+ hours!? any that are quick converters?

No, seriously, you do. I converted a 720p episode of Doctor Who to .m4v format for the iPhone as a test yesterday. Went out for a J, came back and it was done, so it took less than 10 minutes. How much less I have no idea, since I wasn't watching.

Depends on your PC. A film takes no more than 10-15 minutes for me.
