Best induction kit for 172 Cup...

Hello all, hoping to get a few opinions on this...

Had a look using the search function but have found views to differ quite a lot.

Im thinking of purchasing an induction kit for my Cup (mainly because I love the sound! But if it helps with performance, even better!!!)

Used to have a k&n on my vtr, which I actually thought improved the midrange torque even though a lot of saxo boys would swear blind that k&ns lose you power.

What do people have under their bonnets on here? And is there any point just having an induction kit on its own, or does it really need to be coupled with an exhaust and manifold if you want to see any real gains?

I know not to expect more than 2 or 3bhp from an induction kit, but if it even improved low down torque before you hit that magical 4.5/5k revs when accelerating it would be great.

Views and any help would be great from those in the know!!!

Cheers,

SconDog.

As Pete says, unless you want to spend a fortune on an ITG Maxogen kit. They give proven performance gains were most Induction kits cause a loss in power.

I had a pipercross open air filter and it did sound good although it probably wasnt helpful power wise. I have a BMC on now with a good air feed to it and it seems fine.

Scondog - First read your post and was gonna suggest you use search option but youve already done this and like you say everyones views differ so much, I have to say Im disillusioned with the whole IK issue.

Different thoughts on low down throttle response & pickup with BMC and Viper, Different opinions on noise, Hastles of fitting cold air feed, Whether engine runs lean or not and to what degree, Power gains is the best - BMC website claims arround 6bhp, Viper the same and ITG 7bhp but if you claim 6bhp on here from just a BMC youll prob have 90% of people say thats bollox

Got to point now where I dont really know whats right or wrong TBH

One of the sealed induction systems (Pipercross Viper, BMC CDA, ITG Maxogen, etc) is best for perfomance gains...

I had a Viper on my Cup and there were definate performance improvements, particularly in the mid-range grunt!

An open induction kit is cheaper, and theyre louder (more induction roar) but in warm weather youll get heat soak and lose power.

but isnt heat soak when your stood still and not driving ?

bbpt claim 9hp increase with 182exhaust mod + open air induction (also timing advance whatever that is.. probably for a better idle or something)

I have a open PiperCross filter on mine, and Im not impressed.

But then it was £35.

Is it worth the £200 odd a forced kit, wheres the best place to get a BMC CDA from with everything I need? Or would people recommended going for a panel filter and saving the extra cash for an exhaust?
