Best nVidia GFX PCI-E x16 card £400 can buy at the moment?

Why Nvidia? You can also get a 780 for near enough that money.

I'd go for the 780 personally, or wait for aftermarket coolers on the 290X.

nvidia is the recommend for the software (CNC simulations). We tried an AMD card and it didn't like it.

EVGA are good (I've got two EVGA 580GTXs which have been faultless and have an EVGA motherboard downstairs which is a good few years old again without fault), don't know about Zotac.

As above, EVGA are a superb manufacturer.

On a side note, surely for CNC simulations you don't want to be looking at a gaming graphics card?

Would nVidia's Quadro's not be more up that street?

Go with whichever 780 is cheapest.

I have had EVGA, Palit, Zotac etc etc. Never had a card fail as yet (touch wood) and if they did fail it would likely be after so much time that I'd consider the card obsolete and requiring replacement anyway.

DirectCU II is a method of cooling the GPU whereby typically copper heat exchange pipes channel heat away from the surface through direct contact with the GPU itself (rather than running pipes through a heat exchanger plate that makes contact with the GPU).

I had a 290X and played with it for a few days. It's an amazing card for the money and overclocks well. Wouldn't listen to much of the fuss about noise/heat either as I managed to get a reasonable overclock to stay practically silent with the right fan profile.

Waiting on the 780Ti Black Editions ;)

LMFAO! As soon as the Trophy is home and paid for, I'm going to upgrade my home PC by purchasing your hand-me-downs / cast-offs! :p

Titans still the king for Compute by the looks of things but the 780Ti will finally beat it for all out performance :)

Will probably wait for the Black Editions though, as apparently they have unlimited TDP and a base clock of over 1Ghz>

num num num :)
