best or better wheel cleaner and sealant?

  ITB BG 182
I dont really clean my wheel apart from a quick scrub and jet wash off.
I have finally got annoyed about them looking cack most of the time and want to know what is best to get all the grotty stuff off but also best thing to protect them with.
I have megs ultra high gloss for the tyres already, which is a b**ch to apply.

Me:

Bilberry 7:1

Agitated with a wheel brush and Megs brush for the insides.

2 coats of Collinite 476... But Poorboys wheel sealant is probably more suited.

poorboys and bilberry it is then.

Will the bilberry get rid of any tyre gloss that has been left on as ive used that many different products in the past im sure ive stuffed up some where.

tyre gloss should be water based i think? a good wash with strong shampoo or APC should get rid of it

its rare to see tyre gloss actually lasting that long

I use Megs endurance tyre gel, Its messy stuff, I use a applicator thats only for the gel as you cant really get it out, and a rubber glove when im putting it on,

Bilberry doesn't shift the gel, It stays on there, Just road driving and the rain gets rid of most of it and it needs a top up every wash.

How bad are the wheels, Bilberry isnt the most powerful cleaner in the world. If you wanrt acid based, use wonder wheels, if you want non acidic, which is just as good if not better IMO, use Espuma Revolution Wheel cleaner, you can get 1L bottles of it. Needs aggitating with a brush.

As for sealing, what you got?

Colly, FK, Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection.

I suggest for future cleaning you use a very diluted solution of shampoo and use a brush to aggitate the crap on your wheels.

Mine lasts around 3 weeks with the odd rain shower. Best durability comes from scrubbing the tyre wall with apc, and then making sure its totally clean and dry. I apply, then wipe the tyre wall with an MF towel.

I would use g101 to start with then bilberry after that, also might need tardis for the tar on the back of the wheels, give them a clay aswell and seal with FK or 476.

All imo of course. FK > all on durability. Especially on wheels where all the crap is going, don't buy into wheel sealent, it's paint the exact same as the paint on your car so protect it the same with the same stuff.

Well one or two of my wheels are chipped to hell so they will be getting a respray soon ish inside and out. But when they are done i want to protect them and try to make them last as long as possible. Im fed up of high gloss black wheels looking dull most of the time or being a pain in the arse to clean every week.

The tyre gloss that is on at the moment has been there for maybe 3 weeks already, they wont go dull which annoys me because my wheels will be dull but the tyres are shiny still.

I currently do this, jet wash the wheels off then use AG wheel cleaner and a wheel brush, rinse them off, use fairy liquid on the tyres and scrub then rinse off then leave each wheel to dry off, come back later on and use a moist/damp cloth to wipe them down. slicken the tyres and its Job Done.

Not true.

Wheels. Easy once you know how. Very simple fact that once they are cleaned (properly), you do not need expensive/any wheel cleaners.

Wash the wheels with a non-acidic/alkali cleaner, like Autoglym Engine and Machine cleaner. This will rid the wheels of most of the built up brake dust.

The wheels are painted metal, so exactly the same as most of your body work. The only difference being that they are subject to higher temperatures than your body work.

Therefore, once washed, clay (old piece of clay), polish (menz, SRP, anything with a decent cut, and yes, you can machine polish them), seal (Poorboys, Chem Guys, FK1000p, the one Richyboi mentioned). Done.

Now you will only need warm, soapy water - the same as your bodywork.

Re tyres, you need to ensure they are clean and dry before dressing them. Most don't allow the tyres to dry properly, hence the shine not lasting. Or they apply so much shine, it slings off up the arch.

I degrease, using APC every time I clean the tyres. Scrubbed with a brush, back to a grey rubber finish. They are then dried either in the sun (come back to them once dry) or left for as long as possible and dressed WITH A CLEAN APPLICATOR using the smallest amount of Megs/Blackfire gel possible. Buffed, reapplied. Done.
