Best Screenwash

Car  E87 118d M Sport
What is the BEST screenwash to use in your opinion?

Currently use the autoglym stuff, but just used the last drop, so shall i buy the same again, or move onto to another brand?

use pro-vision comma screen gel so dont have to use the jets often.

cheers

why the lol, lol!

theres got to be some difference between the cheap and the expensive. and having a clear windscreeen makes me happy. (sex wee etc)

Can't really see that there will be much difference if I'm honest!

Think you're just paying the extra for the label tbh!

I have both these screen washes from last time and they are excellent - and only 89p a bottle! No anti-freeze properties but seem to clean well. The bottles have that excellent dispenser in them which makes getting the right quantity extremely easy. Worth getting a few for stock IMHO.

Back on sale again from 9th March

Also have loads of other car stuff, including a 'nano windscreen solution kit' for £5 but the description is vague, so I am guessing its a glass sealant kit???

Found where i heard of it from!

i just use the cheap blue stuff at supermarkets it does the job, i can't really see paying alot for screenwash been that much different.

I`ve bought this rain repellant from Halfords for mine. Once the windscreen is coated with this stuff which suprisingly stays on for ages any old crappy screenwash will do mate

I just buy the cheap stuff from Tesco / ASDA etc...
Then I water it down because I'm tight.
Still works a treat.

Currently using the pink Halfords Premium ready-made sheet.

Works well IMO. But heard from many sourses that Einszett Kristallklar is the best.

I've always used cheapy stuff from supermarkets etc but this thread has got me thinking...

If it's too harsh then will it not affect wax/polish on nearby paintwork?

Fairy liquid does not stay mixed with the water for long, it will sink to the bottom and may clog the pipes or jets up

there must be a difference. im sure some magazine or internet site have done studies before. they do on most other things.

I had the Pink stuff from Halfrauds over winter - with added "aromatherapy scent" - (YES I KNOW) it was awful but cleaned the window lol

Would also like to find a good one for getting rid of bug squash and is kind to wax :)

looks like this is a good bet:

Two wins on the trot for this German star, which continues to amaze. The small 250ml pack makes 25 litres, but it's packed with everything a screenwash needs. It left no trace of our test bugs and only the faintest smear of oil. A top performance from a product that's superb value too." Auto EXPRESS Product Honours - 7th May 2008

Screenwash is just water, isopropanol and dye. I make my own at work.

As for damaging paintwork, the concentration of solvent is very low and isopropanol doesn't damage paint.

With the expensive gear, you're just paying for the name and a fancy smell.

EDIT: I clean my windscreen with acetone. Leaves no trace of anything. (Just don't let it get on the rubbers for too long, unless you want your windscreen to fall out)

anyone know of anything good to get rid of all of the s**t embedded in the windscreen as it were, maybe even to get rid of some of the small scratches?

Acetone will get rid of most of the embedded crap. Scratches will require a glass polisher.

acetone something you can buy on the street?
yeah thought about getting it done. no bad scratches on mine at all, they are all minute, but you know when you get a nice blinding sun to the face type scenario, you can see every imperfection in the screen. grrrrr

Acetone can be bought from DIY stores, I think. (I work in solvent recycling, so I don't have to buy it!)

Just put a bit on a clean rag and wipe away. It evaporates really easily, so you have to be quick. And don't spark up nearby, or you'll end up looking like Wile E Coyote when he tried to blow out the fuse on TNT.
