Best Speed To Sit At

  don't

ok I moved into new place on Monday,

journeys are now longer, 20 miles from the g/fs to my house, and a 13 mile trip to work each day

going to be using more petrol so I want to know what speed i should sit at

Alot of the miles is on national speed limit roads, nice and straight really so i can cruise at a certain speed

is it best for me to sit at 55mph??

at moment im sitting at 55-60mph with revs about 2600-2800

want to get best fuel consumption especially as my exhaust is blowing at moment from my de-cat join

would there be much difference from me sitting at 55, than at 70mph

dont really mind going 55 as the road is used by lots of big lorries that go slow anyway and money comes before time at moment :)

car is a 1995 rsi btw cheers

right i will try to stick to under 70 then and see how things go

although temptation may get the better of me with the engine sayin faster faster faster and before i know it ill be flying on my private road doing well over 100 :-(

need to behave, 55-65 is the target :)

My car only returns good figures youd expect from a 1.2 if im doing 60mph on the motorway, at 70mph i only get 39mpg. I guess it does slow me down though!

think you can safely push it upto 80mph and stay on the economy cam. Came back from Bath to Maidenhead (About 100miles) and was getting 44mpg if i stayed under 80, anywhere between 70-80 should see it up at 40 odd mpg. Unless your happy with the loud pedal getting to those speeds

The most economical speed to do is 55mph.
Im sure this is wrong mate. It may have been back in 1985 when cars had poor fuel economy, but these days engines are very economical and wouldnt be best at anyone particular speed.

To me every road looks like a track. Im always looking for the quickest line when going around bends. I wonder if that saves any fuel.;)
