Best Trackday Clutch

  Clio 182
Sorry if this has been covered before but I haven't managed to find anything in search.

I've removed my gearbox on 182 track car this weekend and when the snow goes away I'm going to take it down to Agency because it has fallen to the classic third gear crunch. While everything is out I'm going to change the clutch from the standard item to something that can withstand a bit more abuse.

Does anyone have any recommendations on good aftermarket clutches for the track? A couple of my mates are big fans of Drive Torque clutches but I just wondered whether there are any other good options?

P.S the car is purely a track car.

Helix 4 paddle is hard to fault for the money TBH, but that said I cant really see the point in upgrading the clutch if its a fairly standard engine, the standard clutch works so well anyway and its not like trackdays are hard on a clutch like drag racing for example.

As Chip says...standard?

My 172 Cup went from brand spanking new to 125k+ miles including a multitude of trackdays on one clutch. If you ride it or abuse it then upgrade but if not, I'd say upgrading is wholly unnecessary.

If you do ride it though Mark, what could you upgrade to? Something like a 4 paddle wont last very long at all if you are riding the clutch, so for that use a standard is the best option.

Yeah, its not like trackdays are full of full bore starts I guess and it is currently a mostly standard engine. The only abuse I guess it gets is I share the car with my dad and I'm trying to learn heal and toe but I doubt he will be giving it a go so the down changes probably give it a blow. I'll see what the prices are like in comparison. There is also the possibility of throttle bodies in the near future so it might be worth spending a little extra to allow for that.

Again, for learning heal and toe the standard clutch is probably best anyway as its the most progressive.

Thanks Ash, I'll check them out...... on another note was your car at Autosport?
No worries ECP sell them and they usual have a few good discount codes if you can't find a 30% one then BIMFOR25 will get you 25% off.

No as Chip says that wasn't mine, mines still in a million pieces lol :)

going to have to try a blueprint one with a "no quibble 3 year warranty" it'll probably be a valeo one anyway

Ohh lol! Are you blowing the covers or the actual plate's? The covers do look much stronger on the Valeo's but maybe they are not

First once i did a fast change from 2nd to 3rd and then couldnt change after that, had constant clutch drag, one of the steel springs on the pressure plate snapped meaning clutch was always engaged even when the clutch was pressed.

Second time was another fast change and it absolutely exploded, made a mess of the inside of the gearbox bell housing, no idea what caused it.

Ouch yeah the second explosion of yours sounds like how mine went and damaged the inside of the gearbox housing :(
