The 172/182 are very expensive to get power out of since Renault did quite a good job in the first place with what is essentially a modified 1.8L block. Most were also down on power (165 BHP instead of 172 PS) from the factory.
Either spend serious money: £500 to make the factory quoted 172 PS, maybe an extra £1200 (cams) on top of that for 180, another £1500 (RS2 intake manifold) on top of that for 190 or (instead of RS2) £2000 (?) for throttle bodies for a pretty solid 195 BHP? Oh or spend £3000 on a low pressure turbo for 230 BHP.
Or forget pub bragging rights and just keep it well serviced with a panel filter in standard airbox.
RS Tuner (buy the box (£100), buy a license (£40 I can't remember?), generic remap on your drive, sell the box on here to get £100 back) is really popular. It will gain 1 or 2 BHP but more importantly improve torque particularly low down so it will feel much more lively on the road.
