ALLY has one on his Mk2 172 if that helps...

Have you tried the brochures with the accessories etc...?

Someone say my name? ;)

Yep, I got http://www.discountroofboxes.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=2986this rack to fit my mk2 172 - it blatantly says its not designed to fit the "Renault Clio Mk2" but Ive had no problems with it. I use mine at least once a week to carry a single (very heavy) mountain-bike. But Ive found that when carrying 2 or 3 bikes the rack moves a bit - purely down to the weight of 3 big DH bikes. Im selling this rack for £20 plus postage, cos Im investing in roofbars and roof-mounted carriers to carry more, heavier bikes (but theyll cost me over £200...).

Also, this rack below is also for sale - its a Halfords High Mount Deluxe (RRP £130) but Ill sell it for £30 to get the damn thing out my garage...

PM me if youre interested in either rack Markh

Hi Ally,

Since Im in australia, would probably cost to much to ship here ;-) But thanks for giving me some ideas to look at. Will do some running around this weekend

Oh well... worth a go!

Things to look for:
- you *must* use a rack that has attachments that hook inside the top of the rear tailgate. DO NOT hook a rack onto the edge of the plastic spoiler.
- the rack pictured above is great fro carrying bikes with weird frames (I carry a Specialized Enduro and Orange Patriot full-sussers on it - unconventional frames).
- Be careful if youve got lowered suspension - it puts more shocks through the car into teh rack (shocks that normally would be dealt with by the suspension).
- the rack pictured holds the bikes high enough up to clear the number plate and lights.

Im getting Thule roofbars and Thule 951 Proride carriers. Part numbers youd need for a post-98 3-dr clio are:
Rapid foot kit: 750
Rapid foot lock kit: 544 (not essential)
Rapid fitting kit: 1119
Aero bar: 861

But to use it on a megane (new shape) youd need to change the foot kit to a 3001 for a 3-dr or 5-dr. Im guessing Thule are available world-wide, so it might be an option for you!

Someone Ive contacted out here in Aus uses a Thule Freeway 968 on their 172. Says works fine. Price isnt too bad also. Hopefully check it out tomorrow

I used to work in a bike shop for 5 years, lots of experience with these things Thule is a good brand. If you dont have any other use for a roofrack other than carrying a bike Id go for a Thule high rise mounting boot rack (i.e. one that doesnt obscure your number plate or lights (a legal requirement in the UK))

Make sure you put the boot rack on nice and secure otherwise it will move and the clips will scratch.
