Bit of water underneath rear bench - SOLVED

I noticed a bad smell when I put my front windows down and upon investigation found out that it's likely to be coming from this little wet patch underneath the rear bench. It's a small amount and I'm airing it out, and the bench, so that hopefully the smell disappears.

One question though - how would this bit have gotten wet? Is there a drain that could have been blocked maybe? Or a slight gap where water can get in from the arch or something?

No just here! Forgot to upload the bloody photos.

@jesus have a look at my trophy thread. Had same problem, turned out to be rubber boot stops.. 57p items.
I actually had a hose lightly pouring down the rain channel past the stop and you could watch it run stright into the boot.

It started in the boot... One good brake and its then in the rear seat. Builds up another good brake and its in the front.

The black rubber boot stops next to the rear lights when you open the boot.

Seal them with silicone.
Do you mean the rubber 'strips' along the boot? Just had a look and there is now water in the boot. The stench is enough to make me want to scrap it and get something else!

Is it these bad boys that need siliconing? What's the best way, silicone around the hole and then refit these? Or just sack them off and seal the hole up.

57p each buy two new ones ;).. destroy the old ones pulling them out and silicon the back of them for added sealing.

Can't I silicone the existing ones or do they break on removal? I hate my local Renault dealer so I won't be using them.

I added extra to the underside of the stop. The problem i would say with removal is you will damage them a little bit so they wont sit tight on as they do when new. The silicon could over come that but for a quid. Is it really worth it?

One of mine snapped off when i tried to remove it. The silicone is holding it on now and it's solid.

I was a lot more carefull with the other side and got that off without breaking it.

Where do you silicone - all over the bit that slides into the bodywork?

Fcuk me, this is hard work like trying to get @Daniel to print a page of text ! Have you sorted it yet..?

Take them out, from the inside. Clean the outside surface .. Silicone/something similar all around the hole. Put the thing back in. Clean up any excess and shut the bootlid.

Do you have Velcro shoes still ? 😂

Just stumbled across this as a result of a search. Couldn't find the source of the leak in my boot. I was convinced it was the tailgate seal after a repair following an accident. However, after reading this I noticed that the rubber seals mentioned above were loose and were letting in loads of rainwater. Popped to the local stealer and yes, they're 57p each, plus VAT. Hopefully this will cure the leak before the boot floor starts to rust. I'll just have to put up with it till after xmas now when the parts come in!

Put a bit of silicone around the back of them before you put them in mate.

I'm glad it's been of some use, I couldn't bear the smell of wet carpets any longer! I think I went a bit OTT with the silicone on mine, but it certainly hasn't happened since :) thanks again @JamesBryan

Well I only noticed it when I swapped out the boot carpet. Good job I did really. Just annoying I can't fix it yet as its been lashing down all night here!

My spare boot well and sometimes underneath my seat is like a monsoon ATM. I shall take a look at these seals :).

Right. Changed the seals today. Renault part number is 7700423111. Siliconed too for good measure. Now to wait and see if it fixes the problem, then on to drying the car out!

Checked today. There's still a small puddle in the boot! Not sure where it's coming from! I think maybe the tailgate isn't sealing tight against the seal. The tailgate sticks out a little when shut. Can it be adjusted at the lock/catch?

I had a puddle under the back seat.and a wet boot.i placed some tissue behind each grommet (behind the back lights)found one was leaking. i used sealant..get some kitchen roll.put it all round the inside of your boot lid..and behind grommets..if you have a jet spray.. spray all round..check the aerial seal too..
