Black paint..cant get swirls out

Have tried using Megs 83 on a cutting pad followed by 80 on a polishing pad, but when in direct sunlight there are still light swirls apparent (especially on the bonnet)

dont want to keep hitting it with 83, but wondering what i could do to remove them totally>>

SSR 2.5 is no more abbrassive than the 83.

You could try some Menzerna Intensive Polish.

How much pressure you using on the PC, how long your working the polish etc?

sat for about 15 mins on each side of bonnet...working till it went clear

just pushing hard enough to stop the PC moving up and down (as it does when set on the panel with no pressure - kind of bobs up and down)

so just putting enough pressure to stop doing this

You need to put a decent amount of pressure otherwise it will do very little. You need to apply enough pressure that allows the machine head to spin with out the motor bogging down.

you may learn from my errors

1) area - make sure you don't work on too big an area... i find 18" is about right
2) polish - I found I was using too much polish and therefore despite a hundred million passes the polish wasn't actually breaking down!
3) Speed of passes - make sure that your passes aren't too quick... i think about 1" per second is about right but I think I actually do my passes even slower...

The only way I know my SSR has broken down is when it starts to dust... i guess that this is also the case with the megs range? Rich covered the pressure thing but I also made a line on my backing plate so I know if the pads spinning or not! Hope this helps )

Good tip the line on the backing plate, makes it so much easier to know if it is spinning properly.
