Blowing exhaust, had new cat/exhaust prob still there.

Hi guys, I have a really annoying problem with my car, it constantly blowing from the exhaust (hot or cold, 1 min driving or 1 hour driving) Its like a phh phh phh every few secs. I asked one here before and many people pointed me in the direction of the plugs, I changed these on Saturday but the problem is exactley the same (1 plug looked messed up tho, see pic in link http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6241/photo0007wm8.jpg hard to see, but one is kinda rusty from the 4th plug) I have had the cat replaced about 2 months ago, and the exhaust was replaced about 8 months ago, any other ideas you can point me at ? Dont mind doing a bit of troubleshooting to trace it, many thanks.

get the car up on axle stands and resecure exhaust and check mounts etc. Sounds like either loose exhaust mounts or tightening required.

Thanks tried your suggestion, prob still with me, seems to be getting worse. I have also tried fuel treatment but still no good. I have read simular problems and the coil pack/leads are suggested, could this be an area for me to look at ? (not sure if this is connected but my 4th plug was rusty when I changed em) thanks.

Its also really sluggish to start (not sure if its connected) but it kinda just splutters into life (feels like it will cut out) I have checked the TDC sensor but it 'looked' okay to me.

Have you checked the seal where the exhaust meets the CAT? Also is the exhaust a standard one?

Hi Daz, its a standard exhaust (was replaced under used car warranty after it snapped at some point 2 months after I get it) and the problem was there since, had the cat changed about 3 months ago (which would have been about 13 months since the exhaust) I can cope with the exhaust but it can get so extreme ip pops the exhaust hook out of its rubber frame, thanks for your reply tho.

Mate, ive had my exhaust blowing from the cat to center section for ages now..... a year maybe lol

Ive tried too many times to count to fix it with new clamps and paste etc.... and nothing works. Ive got a can of Silicone in the boot that Fred suggested i try so will give that a go at the weekend. God i hope it works..... if it doesnt id pay silly money to anyone who can lol

Ok, well that joint would be my first port of call. Take the clamp off, apply an exhaust bandage and paste then put the clamp back on and allow the engine to warm up. Have the mounts been renewed at all? If the mounts are worn the exhaust will have excessive movement putting strain on the joint in question.

Also, when the car is cold get under it and feel around the joints. Make sure it's cold as this is when all the metal will have retracted and the leak will be more apparent. You should feel the leak if it's enough to be able to hear it.
