Bog standard Castrol GTX

  Ph2 172 Cup
Looking a the standards on Castrol GTX (bog standard stuff not magnatec) it seems to meet the required A3 standard. But as far as I'm aware it's a semi-synthetic.

Since it meets the standard, any reason not to use it in a 172 cup? It's about 1/4 the price of fully synthetic so my plan would be to use that BUT change the oil much more frequently.

Thoughts?

someone once said that if you use castrol GTX in a renault engine is sounds like a skeleton having a w**k inside a tin can, they were right too

I've said it several times, don't use castrol stuff at all tbh. Even the magantec doesn't suite them, I tend to use halfrauds own 5w40 (made by comma) and they seem to like that just fine.

So what can you use off the shelf on the high street ? :S

Without mail ordering from opie oils etc ?

And is halfords oil really good ?

I thought castrol would be better anyday :S

Halfords sell there own brand 5w40w fully synthetic, Ive used that for my suzuki and cant fault it. You can pick shell helix 5w40w fully synthetic up at any shell garage and theres bound to be other places that sell it. My renault dealor sells duckhams. Opie oils did have a 10% discount for cs members this week.
