bonnet catch on Mk1 172

Im just trying to release the bonnet from the front as the cable has stretched too far.

Ive had a look on the forum and can only find info on the facelift, does anyone know how to release it on an early one? cheers

If its not totally snapped I'd strip the trim where the lever is, remove the lever so you can get the cable and pull it by hand??

The cable could have come off the catch its like a little L shaped thing that hooks onto the catch. Not sure how the hell you'd get at it tho
