Bottom end bearings gone what are my options?

Hi all,

The bearings have gone on my engine, not ideal. Looking at secondhand engines at the minute. Question is, is it really worth it? I'm getting tired of how much its costing on fuel and insurance and I have a backup 106 quicksilver to scoot around in. I do love the car to bits though. I've had four after all. I cover at least 60 miles a day and the car was averaging 32mpg.

I figure the cost of a decent engine is £600 delivered but i'd also need(?)

Cambelt kit £110
Aux kit £150
Water pump? £60
Engine mounts £35 (car done 94k)
Cam seals £15
ARP bolts???
Removal, timing and fitting? Alot I assume
Anything else needed on the shopping list?

Not a lot of point fitting ARPs unless you're going to do more to it (cams etc)

Just put a secondhand engine in it thats had belts recently. They are everywhere. Don't sell it for £500, thats a rediculous idea.

TBH car is not in ideal condition cosmetically with f**king vandalism damage - bonnet, two deep dents about 50p size, slight ding in passenger rear and two small knocks on the roof when some pissed fucker decided to climb all over it outside work. One of the tips from the exhaust has also gone for a walk due to rusting, but piper won't honour gurantee as I was not the original purchaser. The alloys also need refurbing and are non cup pack so not worth much

Its the running costs that are hitting hard, insurance is over £100 a month plus fuel bill is £400, and I dont earn a kings ransom. Looking at three months to save the money to sort engine.

Ah well! I'm just thinking about cutting my losses and saving for a while.
