Bought a 172 today, it went wrong today :(

  Ph-Quick
just got back from buying a 172 :D love the car, lovely to drive etc

But then half way home it starts to judder, i lose power and it struggles when accelerating, and the emissions light starts flashing:(

managed to limp it home, but funny thing was it wasnt as bad all the time, about 10mins from home it seemed fine and was running fine, but then just before home it started it again:(

Bought it trade so got a warrenty so not to worried about cost etc, but i need to use the car on wednesday morning, and im worried it wont be sorted in time!

Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

Sounds like a coilpack maybe?

Edit: Beat me to it

But seeing as it would be warrenty work is there anyway of making sure what it is, and fast? as need it sorted by tuesday night!

How much roughly does it cost anyway?

See laura fletchers threads...

If you bought it today mate, return it to the garage for a refund (well within your rights to do this) and go find another one.

Problem is the garage is an hour and a half away!

I still want the car as its hopefully a silly little problem that is hopefully easily rectified and under the warrenty!

The guy is ringing me back in the morning after speaking to his mechanic so il wait and see what he says!

The guy was shoked as it was his mates car and had only been on the forecourt a week, i know he could have been making it all up but i dont think he was as he was genuiely a nice guy and that.

With an avatar of "Fear" I kinda feel that won't help you or the car. Don't jinx yourself.

It hasnt just randomly happened by chance on your way home mate. Bit of a coincidence eh...

It'll have happened to the garage/ previous owner before. Soon as you accept it and start faffing around trying to fix it you lessen your chances of getting a refund.

  clio...
Take it back for a full refund. Espc' from buying with a garage all these minor niggles should of been sorted out. You're well within your rights to a full refund, If he winges hit him with the old trading standards line.

Im so gutted its happened i really thought it was gonna be a good'un!

As to how genuine the guy is and whether or not he knew about it i dont know, as he seems like he didnt but then hes a businessman!

Basically im getting it diagnosed later today, so then i will know hopefully whats wrong with it, and if its a quick cheap fix then il consider just getting it done to avoid any hassle of getting it back to them and getting another car!

But if its something thats gonna cost abit of money then il even demand they pay for it or demand a refund!

Cheers for the help guys!

DOes anyone know rough prices for a coil pack change or a fuel sensor change etc?

Right we have found the problem, and its injector number 3!

The guy said that the garage wouldnt have known as it would have run rough with it gone, and its just simply bad luck that its gone so soon after getting it!

Does that sound right?

And the guy that i bought the car from feels so bad that he is sending me a cheque from his personal account as the warrenty has an excess on it!

Does anyone know how much an injector is?

As it looks like thats about all il have to pay for and possibly not even the full amount!

i can understand why people are saying to take it back for a refund, but at the end of the day its was something that they didnt know about and couldnt have known about!

And yes theres an excess on the warrenty which isnt great but if i had gone private then i wouldnt have had anything anyway!

Like i said the guy is gonna pay me for it aswell!

its just bad timing and the rest of the car is good!

  Ph-Quick
the guy that is fixing it has had a good luck round it and says its good! so im happy with that!
