Brake Compensator?

Took my car for its MOT yesterday and he couldnt get much out of my rear brakes on the check once he had it on the ramp he noticed that on the compensator it looked like there was a spring missing or something missing should there be a spring on the compensator?

There is a thread on here iirc about it, there is also a letter from renault too which you can take to the MOT place.

Iv got the arm there but no spring so model dosnt come with the spring

Thats what it looks like is this right for a Cup or is there something missing if there isnt there must be another problem with my brakes

That's how it should look on the cup.

The rear brakes do have low effort and unless the MOT guy understands that's the way it's supposed to be you get problems.

Tell him that's how it should be.

Look at the last page of the link posted above and show that to the MOT guy.

I cable tie mine up for the MOT now to avoid having to explain every year... then release it again afterwards.

There is nothing wrong with your brakes.

as above its been said many atime CUPS do not have it connected

Yep the compensator was preset at the factory, at quite a low level, so the rears on the 172 cup, do not a lot.

renault needed to bias the brakes somehow, as the master cylinder is split 50/50 so they just fitted a compensator from the non abs models and removed the actuating arm..

they cant do alot.. the back end is so light

i've biased mine to about 300kg effort on the front and 100 on the rear, and even like that the back end will lock up before the fronts
need to tone it down to about 50

yeah spare wheel etc back in but then it defeats the object of it being a cup,,, and its fine the way it is as the brakes are biased properly

Adding weight won't change the bias as the compensator is disconnected so always will act at the minimum setting. That's the way it's supposed to be.

I can still lock my rears if I'm unlucky when under heavy braking on the track - even with the compensator disconnected.

Does anyone know if you can adjust the bias with compensator, I notice the big nut on it?
