brake discs

right, the time has come to replace my brake discs due to excessive grooving from crap brake pads... im not going for renault replacements as theyre crap, im looking for either vented or grooved discs, not sure which to go for, will be down to price as I have a fair bit to do before the MOT...

can anyone advise where the have got theres from, i dont want a big brake conversion just now, just discs that will go straight on, in place of the current ones and work with the existing callipers, etc. also getting new pads, but uprated, e.g. greenstuff or similar..

all suggestions welcome.. prices, etc, where to get them from as well would be helpful :D

Robs right, for that money, its a bargain, you would spend that on a top set of discs and pads anywayz........

Ebee i got black diamond 265mm cross drilled n grooved discs with black diamond fast road pads all supplied n fitter for £195 inc VAT from motor sport world in straven.

Great stoppin power, for the money without changin the caliper, also alot better feel through the pedal.

hi ebee.... lol

erm...personally i couldnt wait to get uprated pads delivered, my discs were that badly scored and i was down to the metal on the pads, that i just went to halfords and bought some ferrodo pads, and some oe discs from euro car parts in paisley :)

seemed ok, but they squeek like hell justnow until they heat up :(

as for increasing the diameter, dont think u can increase it by much if any, as the calipers would just rub

I know you said you didnt want it but i think the big brake kit from k-tec is a bargain for only £205, 285mm drilled discs, pads and caliper extender brackets (which will give the effect of better calipers).

How does this work? Obviously the caliper as the same power and covers thesame area therefore a lot of the disc mustnt be used surely? Or am i just being thick again!

not sure wtf a caliper extender actually is btw... lol

would make sense if they allowed bigger pads...

more contact area, so more stopping power

otherwise if the pads are the same size then theres no point (unless theyre moved further out from the centre of the disc, which again will improve stopping power)

And dont forget some bigger disks need bigger wheels.

I just fitted Tarox G88 40 groovers all round. Very good but a bit overkill on rear and not really required. Their pads work well too. Did take a while to bed in but they are very good. Think I got them from Carnoisseur for rear and Prima for front. Depends on discount etc but try members area for good deals.
