Brake issues at oulton?

  Golf GTD Mk7
So first trackday on the DS2500s and overall I was very impressed. Locked up a couple of times which was nice ;). For those who don't know its the usual setup, with HC discs, lines and dot 4 super.

Anyway, when I was starting to push the car more towards the end of the day by about the 5th lap I was getting vibration under braking. So came into the pits. Checked the pads over and all looking nice and meaty, nothing out of place. Checked the fluid, and aside from a little leakage from the reservoir, the level was fine. So I thought the disc might have warped? Bare in mind I don't leave my foot on the brakes when stationary ever, so chances are minimal.

Went back out again for a few more laps and again they were spot on for the first few laps, and vibration occurred again towards the end.

Anyone any ideas? Was a bit gutted as by the time I was getting into it, I was losing confidence in the brakes and ended up pitting.

I'm thinking about running CAFs to help, but should they be doing this anyway?

not that I could see. Disc were nice and shiney :S They had a nice red lip on them from all the heat too.;)

Did you leave the handbrake on when you parked up after a session on track?

Only thing I can think is you got too much heat into the discs and warped them possibly also ditch the 4.1 as its s**t and go for 5.1 instead.

The AP stuff or Halfrauds is good but remember it needs changing regularly plus speak to www.jmstuning.co.uk about there brake ducts.

Hope that helps?

;)

Vibration through the pedal and the steering wheel?

Disc can warp if the hub has not been cleaned properly or if the pads are not centering correctly in the front carriers, especially under heavy use. I would expect the vibration to stay mind, not come and go.

How have the Ferodo pads been fitted, forced in, filed, shims/no shims etc?

Im running the same setup Jonny. DS2500s, HC's, Lines and cheapo Halfrauds 5.1, never had any issues all year they have been faultless...seems odd that yours should be any different

I didn't leave the handbrake on much, might have a few times thinking about it, but it felt like the vibrations was coming from the front. I always did at least 1 cool down lap too.
I'm thinking of just going to get some second hand cup racer ones and do it myself :)

I can't fully remember where it was coming through :S. Pretty sure it was the pedal. Though, but what would it mean for both?

Pads were fitted and went in reasonable well without any filing. I did remove the shims though. They were snug I should say. I get a tiny bit of squeel when driving round town.

Just get some 106mm ducting iirc it is and make your own - save £'s

As above, it wont do any harm really.

106mm, is that right? thought is was 70mm?

I know mate. That's why i'm stumped. you are considerably lighter though, but that shouldn't make this happen regardless of wieght. They weren't fading as weight may dictate.

As Tom says could be the pads sticking in the carrier. They could be expanding when getting hot.

Pads are near enough new, so I could remove and fit the backing plate down a bit to see if that helps, although I don't really want them too loose in the carriers do I :S

yep they must be able to move, snug = bad

you need around 1.5mm clearance

sounds like you're a heavy breaker

Pretty sure its 102mm for the Ph2 foglight holes. Thats the size i bought for mine.

Although i stil havnt fitted mine, just sat in my room lol.

ah ok, i'll take them off and give them a file down before the next one. Heavy breaker, I guess I have my moments, i'm trying to stop and brake softer for longer if that makes sense :)

Sweet if it is, i've got some 102mm left over, so saves me a few pennies :)
